Portugal has become a
diversified and increasingly service-based economy since joining the European
Community in 1986. Over the past decade, the government has privatised many
state-controlled firms and liberalized key areas of the economy, including the
financial and telecommunications sectors. Economic growth has been above the EU
average for much of the past decade.

由於語言、文化和人文關係，澳門與葡萄牙等葡語系國家已建立了廣泛的聯繫。其中，澳門貿易投資促進局與葡萄牙對外貿易促進局 (ICEP)及葡萄牙工業協會(AIP)簽訂了合作協議。
Given the language, culture and the close
relationships, Macao has been dealing with Portugal and other Portuguese-speaking
countries through various channels for a long time. IPIM has co-operation
protocols with the ICEP and AIP of Portugal.
