According to information from the State Grid Corporation of China, State Grid’s subsidiary in Brazil, State Grid Brazil Holding, signed a concession agreement with Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency) on April 3 in Brasilia for the ±800 kV high-voltage direct current transmission project of new power in northeastern Brazil.

This is the largest transmission concession project in Brazil’s history and the country’s largest infrastructure project in recent years. State Grid won the independent bid in an auction on December 15, 2023. This is the third overseas high-voltage direct current transmission project won by State Grid, following the Belo Monte high-voltage direct current transmission projects in Brazil.

The project includes the construction of a ±800 kV high-voltage direct current transmission line with a length of 1468 km, two converter stations at the ends, synchronous compensators and engineering projects related to alternating current. The nominal transmission capacity is 5 million kilowatts. The energy generated will meet the electricity use needs of approximately 12 million people in the central areas, including the Federal District. It is scheduled to start operating in 2029, with a concession period of 30 years.
