Improving the geological information about the country to attract foreign investors is one of the priorities of the new Board of Directors of the Geological Institute of Angola (IGEO), inaugurated on Monday, in Luanda, said the new president of the institution.

Canga Xiaquivuila also said that the revitalisation of the Hidromina company in the south of the country, in order to mitigate the effects of drought in that region of Angola, is also a priority.

The focus on staff training, to respond to the current challenges of the sector, is another of the challenges of IGEO, which will make use of three new laboratories, in Luanda, Saurimo and Huila for chemical analysis.

“We will also work on the execution of the Memoranda of Understanding with Germany for groundwater exploration in the south, and the assessment of mining resources, with Russia for validation of geological information, as well as cooperation with Japan for the assessment of mining resources,” he said.

The Geological Institute of Angola is a public body whose fundamental functions are the execution and coordination of geological mapping and the study of the country’s mineral resources, taking into account the mining policy established by the government.
