[2019-02-04] Amicachi Association builds China-Cabo Verde Interchange Centre

The China-Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) Exchange Centre, which will be located in the Achada Santo António neighbourhood, is expected to cost about 330 million escudos (3 million euros), said the president of the Cabo Verde-China Friendship Association (Amicachi), José Correia .

The president of the association, who was taking part in the ceremony to lay the first stone of the centre, on Friday in Praia, noted the importance of the project for the organisation as well as for the country, as it “will contribute to the development of relations between the two countries.”

The future China-Cabo Verde Interchange Centre is a seven-storey building, which will have several facilities, namely gastronomic, cultural, residential for specialists, offices among others, and the first phase of work is due to begin within two weeks and be completed in six months. The overall project is due for completion in 2020.

The work is funded with Amicachi’s own resources, which for the execution of this project is supported by the government of Cabo Verde, China, Praia City Hall and other entities, according to Cape Verdean news agency Inforpress.

The ceremony to lay the first stone of the project was also attended by the Chinese ambassador to Cabo Verde, Du Xiaocong, Praia city officials and other entities.

The Cape Verdean government announced last week that China will finance the construction of 88 houses in the town of Portelinha, on the outskirts of the city of Mindelo, which is currently a shanty town.

The project, which will have electricity and running water, will be divided into 11 blocks and will include green spaces, a children’s playground and parking, and work is scheduled to begin this year.

This project is the result of a technical and economic cooperation agreement signed on Tuesday by the Cape Verdean government through the Ministry of Infrastructure, Planning and Housing.

Portelinha’s social housing pilot project is expected to be followed by others on the islands of São Vicente and Santiago.
