The First Conference of the International Science, Technology and Innovation Forum of Boao Forum for Asia opened in Macao in 10 November. Mr Xi Jinping, President of China, which is the Hosting Country sent a congratulatory letter to the event, Mr Han Zheng, Vice Premier of the State Council delivered a video address. Mr Ban Ki-moon, Chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) (via live video), Mr Edmund Ho Hau Wah, President of ISTIF of BFA, Mr Zhou Xiaochuan, Vice Chairman of the BFA and Chief representative of China, Ms Maria Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (via live video) Member of BFA Board of Directors and Former President of the Philippines, Mr Ho Iat Seng, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region and Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region respectively delivered speeches at the event. Mr Li Baodong, Secretary General of Boao Forum for Asia presided the opening ceremony.
According to attendees, scientific and technological innovation is one of the most important drives for civilisation. There is no border for science. International collaboration is essential for scientific and technological innovation development, as well as innovative administration. As the novel coronavirus pneumonia has brought huge challenges to most of the countries around the world, international technology and innovation forum will help different countries change their way of growth and achieve economic recovery and sustainable development.
Key guests including Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding of strategic co-operation by the Secretariat of Boao Forum for Asia and the Macao Special Administrative Region Government. The MoU was signed by Mr Lei Wai Nong, Secretary for Economy and Finance and Mr Cheng Ji, Executive Director of the Secretariat of Boao Forum for Asia.
The event was collaboratively hosted by the Boao Forum of Asia and the Macao Special Administrative Region Government. Under the theme “Innovation Empowers Sustainable Development”, the three-day event from 9 to 11 November held a series of sub-forums and offline networking activities with focuses on “Impetus for Innovation”, “Innovation and Life” and “Co-operation and Innovation”. The activities gathered over a hundred authoritative speakers and more than a thousand representatives from 25 countries and regions, crafting an important platform for international exchange and collaboration. More than a hundred journalists representing 40 press media from Mainland China and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area joined the event.
