Macao Entrepreneur Delegation Attended CIFIT in Xiamen

With the aim to boost the development of trade collaboration between Portuguese-speaking Countries, Fujian Province and Macao, IPIM organised a delegation of about 40 Macao entrepreneurs to take part in the “China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) Belt and Road Investment Congress” and the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Investment Co-operation Seminar, in Xiamen, Fujian Province, events that took place from 7 to 9 September. During the event, enterprises from Fujian and Macao signed three letters of intent, covering areas ranging from environmental technology and environmental equipment, to energy.

The International Investment Forum – as one of the main activities of CIFIT – was held on the morning of 8 September. Mr Yu Weiguo, Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and Director of the Standing Committee of the Fujian Provincial People’s Congress; Mr Rasim Ljajic, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia; Mr Lou Yangsheng, the Governor of Shanxi Province; and Ms Ma Xiuhong, the President of the China Council for International Investment Promotion (CCPIT), each delivered a speech during the opening ceremony of the International Investment Forum.

IPIM set up a Macao Pavilion at CIFIT to introduce Macao’s business environment to those attending, and explained the city’s contribution to the development of the “Belt and Road” initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Greater Bay Area). The Pavilion also provided information about Macao’s efforts to promote closer co-operation between Mainland China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, including IPIM’s “One-stop Service” for MICE Bidding and Support in Macao; and the Economic and Trade Co-operation and Human Resources Portal between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. There was also a special display area for food products from Portuguese-speaking Countries.

During CIFIT, the Macao entrepreneur delegation took part in meetings and in other negotiation sessions. The delegation also participated in business-matching sessions and other industry exchanges during the event.

On the afternoon of 8 September, the Macao entrepreneurs delegation attended the China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Investment Co-operation Seminar. The Seminar – hosted by the China Council for International Investment Promotion (CCPIT), and the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), with support from IPIM – attracted more than 100 participants. Ms Ma Xiuhong, President of CCPIT; Ms Xu Yingzhen, the Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao; and Ms Zhou Xiaoyan, the Special Advisor to CCPIT, each delivered a speech during the Seminar. Mr Sam Lei, Executive Director of IPIM was the keynote speaker at the Seminar. In addition, representatives of the Portuguese-speaking Countries to the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao also shared information about the trade and investment environment in their respective countries. Special project promotional sessions were also arranged for enterprises from Mainland China.
