Coffee from Minas Gerais has broken down geographical and cultural barriers and has been conquering palates on the other side of the planet. In this week of World Coffee Day, celebrated on April 14, one of the highlights is the growth of exports to China, which have seen a vertiginous increase in the last ten years, with a registered increase of around 3,960% in the value handled, reaching a figure of almost US$ 251 million in 2023.

With this progress, the Asian country has become the sixth main destination for the state’s coffee production. The results are the result of rising quality, driven by the technical assistance, rural extension, research and health surveillance services offered by the Minas Gerais government, contributing to the professionalization of the sector and the expansion of international markets.

The coffee growers are pioneers in joining the Certifica Minas Café Program, coordinated by the State Secretariat for Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Seapa), and have been trading abroad for two decades. Currently, all of Fazenda Dutra’s production is organic and sold directly to more than 20 countries. The first time the family sent the product to China was in 2016.
