The government of Mozambique and the Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA) plan to integrate the Annual Private Sector Conference (CASP) into the regular editions of the Maputo International Fair, Mozambican daily newspaper Notícias reported.

The plan is one of the main decisions of an audience granted to the leadership of the CTA by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Carlos Mesquita, acting as the government’s focal point for public-private dialogue.

The newspaper also said that the next edition (17th) of CASP would go ahead in its current format and its high point is expected to be from 5 to 7 May, when strategies for the improvement of the business environment in Mozambique are due to be outlined.

During the audience, the government and the CTA also discussed short-term measures and the programme for monitoring and evaluation, as well as reflecting on the business environment in Mozambique, where the view of the private sector on the matter essentially boils down to the need for implementation of the reforms that have already been adopted.

The Mozambican authorities have introduced a number of reforms to improve the business environment, but the country’s position in the World Bank’s “Doing Business” ranking leaves something to be desired, which, according to the CTA, “demonstrates that it is a process that does not end with the approval of laws, and, therefore, there is a need to ensure the quality and efficiency of application.”
