Angola’s National Oil and Gas Agency (ANPG) has granted Block 28 to Italian group ENI (as operator, with 60%), following an international public tender which took place in 2019, said the Angolan oil and gas concessionaire.

This decision on that block located in deep waters in the unexplored Namibe Basin, southern Angola, will allow the Italian group to consolidate its presence further in the country where it has operated through its subsidiary ENI Angola since 1980.

The contractor group includes Sonangol P&P (20%), and the remaining 20% will be assigned to another partner when the contract is signed.

The allocation of Block 28 follows the result of that auction, in which 10 blocks located in the Namibe and Benguela basins were auctioned, included in oil and gas concessions on land and at sea for the 2019/2025 period.

Block 28 is located in an border exploration area off the Angolan coast at depths ranging between 1,000 and 2,500 metres.
