[2019-08-30] Number of tourists in Cabo Verde increases 7.8% in the first half

Cabo Verde’s hotel establishments received 413,59,000 guests in the first half of 2019, a year-on-year increase of 7.8%, the archipelago’s National Statistics Institute (INE) said.

Over 400,000 registered guests from January to June resulted in 2.54 million overnight stays, compared with 2.44 million in the same period of 2018, an increase of 4.9%.

INE, disclosing the movement of guests in the second quarter of the year, said that in this three-month period hotel establishments received about 179,000 guests, which resulted in 1.13 million overnight stays, or 7.0% more and 5.3% more year on year, respectively.

Hotels remained the most sought-after establishments in the second quarter, accounting for 87.9% of total arrivals, followed by bed and breakfasts with around 4.1%, residential accommodation with 3.4% and tourist villages with 2.6%.

Sal Island continued to be the most sought after, with 42.5% of total entries, followed by Boavista Island with 31.9% and Santiago with 12.6%.

The main source tourist market remained the United Kingdom, with 26.6% of total inflows, followed by Portugal, France, Germany, Belgium + Netherlands, accounting for 12.1%, 11.0%, 10, 9% and 8.4% of this total, respectively.
