[2019-06-04] Oil and natural gas under discussion in Angola’s capital

The city of Luanda from Tuesday until Thursday will receive more than 800 delegates to the Angolan Oil and Gas Conference 2019, an initiative of Africa Oil & Power, the Angolan press reported.

In addition to Angolan officials from the sector, members of governments of producer countries, representatives of international institutions and major oil companies and distributors Total, Chevron, ExxonMobil, BP, ENI and Equinor will participate in the conference.

The organisation expects the event to be “the largest investment convention in the African oil and gas industry in 2019,” the Angolan news agency reported.

Jornal de Angola reported that the event, which has the support of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Oil, the National Oil and Gas Agency (ANPG) and national oil company Sonangol, will be the stage for the announcement of the winner of the contract for construction of a gasoline production unit at the Luanda Refinery, as well as the signing of the partnership agreement for the construction of the Cabinda refinery.

ANPG president Paulino Jerónimo on Tuesday will announce the preliminary results of the first round of bids for new oil blocks.

Among the confirmed speakers, in addition to President João Lourenço and Minister of Mineral Resources and Oil, Diamantino Azevedo, are Ezekiel L. Gatkuoth, South Sudan Oil Minister, Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima, Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons of Equatorial Guinea, Foumakoye Gado, the Nigerian oil minister, along with other international policymakers.

Angola is Africa’s second largest oil producer, with an average production of 1.49 million barrels per day, behind Nigeria with 1.7 million barrels, but in recent years there has been a natural decline in production, due to oil fields maturing and disinvestment in research, prospecting and exploration.
