Sonadrill, a partnership between Angola’s national oil and gas company Sonangol and the Seadrill group, will ensure the commercial and operational management of four drilling units in Angolan waters, Sonangol said.
The Angolan oil company said in a statement that the partnership agreement was signed on 6 February, with partners splitting equity 50/50, with Sonangol represented by Empresa de Serviços e Sondagens de Angola (ESSA).
The parties will make four oil drilling units available to Sonadrill, and Seadrill will use its own fleet and Sonangol its two probe ships – Sonangol Libongos and Sonangol Quenguela.
The two vessels are designed for drilling in ultra-deep waters and are in the final stages of construction at the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co. shipyard in South Korea, and scheduled for delivery in the first half of this year.
Seadrill Limited, which operates, among other things, semi-submersibles and drill ships, is a deepwater drilling company serving the oil industry and incorporated in Bermuda but managed from London.
