Analysis Report of Statistical Indicator System for Moderate Economic Diversification of Macao 2018

Source:DSEC

The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) publishes the Analysis Report of Statistical Indicator System for Moderate Economic Diversification of Macao annually starting from 2016, to facilitate objective evaluation and ongoing observation of the progress of moderate economic diversification of Macao. The 2018 Analysis Report is released along with updates to the thematic webpage of Statistical Indicator System for Moderate Economic Diversification of Macao, to provide data users with the latest statistics on the eight sections of the indicator system.

As there is no widely accepted standard for objective measurement of economic diversification, DSEC developed a set of multi-dimensional statistical indicators with the aim of evaluating the progress of economic diversification of Macao from various perspectives. The statistical indicator system consists of eight sections, namely (1) Diversification of Industrial Structure, (2) Diversification of Gaming Activities, (3) Diversification of Activities of Concessionaires Engaging in Games of Chance, (4) Diversification of Tourism Market, (5) Development of Major Non-gaming Industries, (6) Diversification of Emerging Industries, (7) Expanding Space for Growth of Macao Enterprises and Residents through External and Regional Cooperation, and (8) Diversification of Employment Structure.

In addition, DSEC has been continually improving and enriching the content of the analysis report to increase the applicability and objectivity of the indicator system. In this year’s report, changes have been made to the method of calculating receipts from non-gaming activities of concessionaires engaging in games of chance. The International Financial Reporting Standard 15 – Revenue from Contracts with Customers (IFRS15), a new guideline issued by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) for revenue recognition, has been adopted in compiling receipts from non-gaming activities, which may better reflect the contribution of hotels, food & beverage services, etc., to the total non-gaming receipts.

The analysis report, published in Chinese, Portuguese and English, has been uploaded to the DSEC website (www.dsec.gov.mo), and print copies are also available upon request. Meanwhile, the thematic webpage address is www.dsec.gov.mo/Diversification/. Should there be any questions or suggestions in relation to the indicator system and the thematic webpage, please contact the Documentation and Information Centre of DSEC by phone at (853) 8399 5311.
