12th MIF Taking on A New Look

The 12th Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF) will be held in the Venetian Macao Convention and Exhibition Centre from 18-21 October 2007. The theme of this year’s MIF is “Showcasing Macao’s New Dynamics; Advancing Opportunities of the Trade and Economic Co-operation Platform.” It will be the first large exhibition to be held in this brand new facility which will be the biggest in Macao. The 12th MIF will be a major event for the government, local business community and overseas enterprises to present a new Macao to the rest of the world.

Working with Distinguished Convention and Exhibition Partners
The 12th MIF has received strong support from local convention and exhibition sector. Co-ordinators of the event have increased to a total of 3, namely the Macao Convention and Exhibition Association, Macao Fair and Trade Association and the Association of Advertising Agents of Macau.

The Venetian Macao resort located on the Cotai Strip will open this year and become the largest shopping centre and convention and exhibition facility in Macao. It has attracted the whole city’s attention. The 12th MIF will be taking place in Exhibition Hall A of the Venetian Convention and Exhibition Centre. The total area of Hall A is more than 13,000 square metres and the number of exhibition booths is expected to increase from 326 to around 700.

MIF has always been the biggest and the most important exhibition in local convention and exhibition business as well as the most significant economic and trade activity in Macao, as a bridge for local and overseas business communities and to introduce foreign capital and technology and establish domestic connections. The 12th MIF will not only be double the size of previous years but will also be held concurrently with MEGA MACAO at the Venetian Convention and Exhibition Centre, the total number of booths for this event will reach nearly 3,000. This will not only convert to vast numbers of business opportunities for local businesses, but will also ignite Macao’s convention and exhibition industry.

Comprehensive Themed Pavilions

Themed pavilions this year include: “Chinese Provinces”, “Macao”, ”Portuguese-Speaking Countries”, “Portugal”, “Exhibition of the European Community”, “International”, “International Trade and Investment Promotion Organisations”, “International Convention and Exhibition”, “Finance” and “Exhibition of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs)”. This will further enhance Macao’s role as an economic and trade platform. Moreover, IPIM will provide subsidies for local SMEs represented at the“Exhibition Pavilion for International Small and Medium Sized Enterprises” so as for the first time will set up a Pavilion of EU Member States. Relying upon already sound relations with the EU, Macao will build on its historical links and serve as an economic and trade platform between China and the EU. What is more, MIF as an incubator in developing the professional exhibitions, will also set up separate Pavilions for Tourism and Vacation, Exhibition Services and Equipment and Comprehensive Services. It is hoped that by setting up these special pavilions in MIF, more information will be accumulated on exhibitors and professional visitors so as to foster and promote the development of Macao’s exhibition industry.

High Level Political and Economic Forums

High level political and economic forums are important activities during MIF. Every year MIF invites senior government officials, business and industrial leaders to attend these forums in order to promote regional and cross-regional economic co-operation. There will be many conferences and presentations this year, such as 2007 International Chinese Entrepreneurs Trade Convention, Co-operation Conference of Convention and Exhibition Industries of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao 2007. The China-Africa Private Enterprises Co-operation Forum (Macao) will extend economic and trade co-operation to African countries, utilising Macao’s advantages as a service platform. Apart from these activities, many countries and Mainland China provinces, regions and municipalities will hold introductory meetings on their investment environments during the exhibition. Promotion among the Customers of All the Partner Fairs Involved Since achieving UFI certification in 2005,to assist in their advancement.

The EU is the biggest economic entity in the world. Macao, as the first trade destination in the Far East for Europe, has a long history of economic and trade relations. The presidency of the EU for the first half of this year is with Germany and that the second half of the year will be handed over to Portugal. Promotion among the Customers of All the Partner Fairs Involved

Since achieving UFI certification in 2005, MIF has enhanced its effort to promote joint development of the local exhibition industry with its international counterparts. IPIM has signed “Memorandums of Co-operation in the Convention and Fairs Sector” with 9 international convention and exhibition organisers, establishing partnerships in this field. The aim is to expand the influence of MIF and boost the mutual benefits. The partner fairs include: “MEGA MACAO”, “China Hi-Tech Fair”, “Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo”, “G2E Asia”, “EXPO REAL ASIA”, “World Brand (Macao)”, “China Chongqing Investment and Global Sourcing Fair”, “FACIM” and “China Harbin International Economic and Trade Fair”.

Such partnerships will enable MIF to work with these world renowned exhibitions, and help each other in distributing publicity material, inviting guests, exchanging information, linking websites and providing various other kinds of services.

Expanding Business Matching

MIF will enlarge the business matching section and enrich the content. Past participants have shown interest in investment projects. Therefore, as well as providing internal and external business-matching services, MIF will add a “Projects Matching” service. This will be done by inviting participants to provide details of their investment projects in order to improve the quality and quantity of the Matching. MIF will also establish the additional service of “Delegation Registry Matching”, enabling participants to make appointments to meet relevant delegations. At the same time the Buyers Corner will be set up once again and welcome procurement groups from the Mainland, overseas and Macao.

In order to promote further growth of MIF and Macao’s convention and exhibition industry, an “International Advisers’ Committee” has been established. International experts from the convention and exhibition industry are invited to provide advice and share their experiences in organising exhibitions. MIF is hosted by Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM). Cohosts include Macao Chamber of Commerce, the Industrial Association of Macau, Macau Importers and Exporters Association, the Association of Knitting and Spinning Industry of Macao, Macau Shipper’s Association, Macau Association of Banks, Macao Association of Building Contractors and Developers, Macau Small and Medium Enterprises Association, Macau Chinese Enterprises Association, Chongqing Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Commission and the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong. Coordinators include the Macao Convention and Exhibition Association, Macao Fair and Trade Association and the Association of Advertising Agents of Macau.

As the leading trade and invstment promotion event in Macao, MIF drew 148 delegations from 47 countries and regions last year along with 24 delegations from local chambers of commerce.。
