The 3rd “Young Entrepreneurs Forum of China and Portuguese- speaking Countries” as well as the plaque-unveiling ceremony of a young entrepreneur exchange centre for China and Portuguese-speaking Countries

The 3rd “Young Entrepreneurs Forum of China and Portuguese- speaking Countries” and the “Portuguese-speaking Countries Business Opportunity series – China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Economic and Trade Investment and Dispute Resolution Seminar” was held on 18 October at the Florence Room of the Venetian Macao.

The Portuguese-speaking Countries Business Opportunity series – China and Portuguese-speaking Countries Economic and Trade Investment and Dispute Resolution Seminar was hosted by IPIM, the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission and the Macau Lawyers Association. During the seminar, the signing ceremony for the “Agreement on the Co-operation Framework between China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission and the Macau Lawyers Association” was conducted. Representatives from the Macau Lawyers Association, Faculty of Law from the University of Macau, and Court of Arbitration of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission gave presentations and exchanged of ideas on areas such as the investment environment and resolution of disputes in economic and trade areas. More than 90 attendees from sectors such as investment, legal and trade participated at the event.

The “Sino-Portuguese Young Start-ups and Innovation Centre” was unveiled during the 3rd “Young Entrepreneurs Forum of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries” together with the signing ceremony of the Co-operation Agreement for the “Macao Young Start-ups Incubation Centre”. The Forum expanded on the topics of “Global Interconnectivity – China & Portuguese-speaking Countries”, and “The Importance of start-ups in the advent of Macao reaching out to the world”.

Global Tourism Economy Forum Macau 2017

Opening ceremony of the Global Tourism Economy Forum Macau 2017

The Global Tourism Economy Forum Macau 2017 was held in Macao on 16 October. Being the supporting unit of the event, IPIM arranged business matching activities aiming to further promote Macao’s investment and business environment and IPIM’s services, as well as organising an activity entitled IPIM Business Networking Activities and Coffee-break.
Organised under the theme “Regional Collaboration towards a Better Future”, this year’s event again gathered together ministerial officials and leaders in tourism industry from around the world and continued to play the role as an international high-level networking platform, as well as providing ideas and suggestions in fostering global tourism and economic development.

During the forum, IPIM set up an exhibition booth and promoted its services as well as the Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF).

2017 Macau International Start-up Week

The 2017 Macau International Start-up Week was held from 24 to 26 November at Hall A of the Convention and Exhibition Center at the Venetian Macao. The venue covered around 4,000 square metres and 120 exhibition booths were set up. More than 60 local and overseas speakers were invited to participate in the event in Macao, and over 60 sharing sessions, four youth workshop and two exchange sessions were held. Activities such as sharing sessions in schools and guiding business starters to enrich their experience in the community were organised from 20 to 23 November.

Officiating guests of the launching ceremony of the Start-up Week included the Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macao SAR Leong Vai Tac, Deputy Director-General of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SAR Yao Jian, Director of Macao Economic Services Tai Kin Ip, IPIM’s President Jackson Chang, Director of Education and Youth Affairs Bureau Leong Lai, Deputy Director of Tertiary Education Services Office Chang Kun Hong, Director of Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation Cultivating Programme Organising Committee and Start-up Week Organising Committee Ma Chi Seng, Executive President of the Macau China Thinktank for FinTech Industries Yang Junwen, General Manager of Bank of China Macau Branch Li Guang, Vice President of Tai Fung Bank Limited Irene Lou Kit I and Vice-Chairperson of Organising Committee of Macau International Start-up Week Lo Tak Chong.

The 13th Joint Meeting of Pan-Pearl River Delta Mayors held in Changsha, Hunan province

The 13th Joint Meeting of Pan-Pearl River Delta Mayors was held in Changsha, Hunan province on 10 November.
This year’s meeting was inaugurated by a speech given by Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee Hu Henghua. Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Changsha Committee and Executive Vice Mayor of the Changsha Municipal Government Shu Xinggang also reported on the co-operation and liaison between cities in the PPRD region since 2016, and representatives from the PPRD “9+2” provinces/regions also gave speeches focusing on the theme of the meeting.

To be in line with the theme of “opening up for interaction, co-operation for success”, representative of the Macao SAR government and IPIM’s President Jackson Chang gave speeches on Macao’s role in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area respectively and invite PPRD provinces and regions to utilise Macao’s strength as a service platform to further strengthen trade and economic collaboration with the countries along the Belt and Road, thus working together in the building of an open platform.

During the meeting, a proposal on strengthening co-operation of provinces and cities in the PPRD Region (Changsha) was released, and the attendants also passed a resolution on the host city and announced Guangzhou as the venue of the next meeting.

Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Delegation Promote Investment and Business Strengths of the Greater Bay Area in Mexico, Canada and US

Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Conference – Toronto, Canada

The event entitled “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Conference, Your Ideal Business Partner in China”, co-organised by IPIM, the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province and Invest HK, were held in Mexico City, Mexico, Toronto, Canada and Seattle, US on 27 and 29 November and 1 December respectively. During the conference, governments of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao encouraged foreign enterprises to make use of the business strengths in the three regions and participate in investment and development in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

During the promotion visit in Mexico, IPIM’s President Jackson Chang visited the China Chamber of Commerce and Technology Mexico and invited the institution to organise local enterprises to participate in exhibitions held by IPIM in Macao. During his visit in Canada, Mr Chang also visited and conducted meetings with the Economic and Commercial Section of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic China in Toronto, the Canadian Municipal Business Gateway as well as local enterprises, and conducted networking meetings with the Federation of Portuguese Canadian Business & Professionals and the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce respectively. Mr Chang introduced Macao’s role and strengths as the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and PSCs and also gained more understanding of the work of the two organisations in Toronto. He encouraged them to visit Macao and make use of its MICE platform to promote trade and economic co-operation between PSCs and Mainland China.

The three conferences attracted the participation of more than 380 representatives from the local government and business sectors. IPIM took the opportunities of the series of activities to encourage enterprises in the three regions to visit Macao and acquire more knowledge of its investment environment. During the business meeting sessions, a number of enquiries on Macao’s investment environment have been received about industries such as education, pharmaceuticals, elderly service and medical equipment. The event also aroused participants’ interests in Macao’s business environment and its roles as a service platform between China and PSCs as well as a MICE platform, and provided an opportunity for foreign enterprises to know more about Macao’s strengths in investment.

2017 Mainland-Macao Business Associations Joint Conference

The 2017 Mainland-Macao Business Associations Joint Conference was held in Macao on 18 October. The event was participated by representatives from trade promotion agencies (TPAs) and business associations from the Mainland and Macao, aiming to highlight Macao’s role as a service platform, explore PSCs market, as well as exchanging views on issues such as joint participation in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Leaders and representatives of Mainland and Macao, TPAs and business associations shared their experience and exchanged views at the conference. Apart from recognising the mechanism and achievements of the conference, participants pointed out that Macao should fully utilise its unique strength, and works in line with the “Belt and Road” initiative and the development of the “One Centre, One Platform”, in order to seek breakthrough in the GBA. A representative suggested Macao to precisely utilise its positioning and foster the development of finance leasing business and traditional Chinese medicine, as well as introducing Mainland high and new technology enterprises to Macao to enhance the quality of Macao products and the growth of innovative industry. It was also suggested that the Macao government could provide more facilitation measures to enhance the flow of people, products and capital between the two regions, and provides Macao enterprises accessing the Guangdong market and the general public more national treatment, thus expediting Macao’s integration in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area.

Dynamic Macao Business and Trade Fair-Haikou, Hainan

The Dynamic Macao Business and Trade Fair-Haikou, Hainan was held from 17-19 November in Haikou. The event was hosted by the Macao Convention and Exhibition Association, with IPIM as the supporting organisation and the Macao SAR Government and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR as the guiding organisations.

The event was attended by more than 300 participants including IPIM’s President Jackson Chang and Executive Director Irene V. K. Lau, Macao trade and economic delegation and exhibitors, and completed 20 co-operation agreements.

A government exhibition area was jointly set up by IPIM, Macao Economic Services, Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) and the Macao Consumer Council, showcasing Macao’s latest investment environment, the strength of local convention and exhibition industry, as well as IPIM’s services, including the Economic & Trade Co-operation and Human Resources Portal between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries and information on the “Belt and Road” initiative. A Portuguese-speaking Countries Food Products Exhibition Area was also set up to showcase PSCs food products. Visitors can obtain information of the products by scanning the QR Code next to the exhibits and some commodities are available for purchase on Mainland shopping websites.

The opening ceremony of Dynamic Macao Business and Trade Fair-Haikou, Hainan

Representatives of Macao Convention and Exhibition Industry attended Xiamen International MICE Week

Co-organised by the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition Affairs, Taiwan Exhibition & Convention Association, Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and IPIM, and co-ordinated by Xiamen Convention and Exhibition Association, the “2017 Xiamen International MICE Week” was held from 6 to 9 November in Xiamen. IPIM organised a Macao convention and exhibition industry delegation to participate in the event. The activity attracted the participation of around 1,500 representatives from local and overseas convention and exhibition industries including those from BRICS.

Before the commencement of the event, IPIM’s President Jackson Chang conducted a meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Xiamen Municipal Government Han Jingyi and other guests to exchange views on the future development of the convention and exhibition industry in Xiamen. At the opening ceremony, speeches were given by the Deputy Mayor of Xiamen Municipal Government Han Jingyi and the Deputy Director of the Foreign Trade Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce Han Shengjian. Keynote speakers included the President of China Convention and Exhibition Economics Research Association Yuan Zaiqing, Asia Pacific President, International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Noor Ahmad Hamid, IPIM’s President Jackson Chang, Director of the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition Affairs Wang Qiongwen, Executive Vice President of China, International Public Relations Association Zhao Dali and the Executive Vice-President of China Conference Hotels Alliance Wu Shaoyuan.

“Convention and Exhibition Projects Matching Fair” and an “Asia Pacific Convention and Exhibition Industry Co-operation Saloon” were held during the event. Representatives from local and overseas convention and exhibition industries enthusiastically expressed their valuable opinions and more than 50 business matching sessions were conducted for representatives of Macao’s convention and exhibition industry. A participating MICE representative said that the outcome was satisfactory and agreements on co-operation for 10 projects have been reached.

The Eco Expo Asia 2017, hosted by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and
Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, was held in Hong Kong from 26 to 29 October. IPIM’s Executive Director Irene V. K. Lau joined a delegation of 30 organised by the Environmental Protection Bureau to participate in the opening ceremony and seminar in Hong Kong.

A Macao Pavilion was set up by IPIM to introduce Macao’s business environment as well as its work on environmental protection and highlighted the 2018 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (2018 MIECF) to be held in Macao from 12 to 14 April 2018.

The delegation also visited several themed exhibition zones in the venue and exchanged views with representatives of environmental industry from around the world. This year, a total of six Macao enterprises set up exhibition area in the Macao Pavilion showcasing environmentally-friendly products and technology such as energy efficient Cloud computing and services, energy-saving lighting, green products, environmentally-friendly utensils, SMEs sewage processing machine and green construction materials.

Contract signing at the China-Portugal Enterprises Trade and Economic Networking Seminar – Trade, Investment and Production Capacity Co-operation under the Framework of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao)

IPIM organised a Macao entrepreneur delegation of nearly 30 and joined the delegation of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) and a delegation of Mainland entrepreneur to visit Portugal and Brazil from 18 to 26 November. Trade and economic networking sessions were conducted and the delegation explored business opportunities in trade and production capacity co-operation.

Apart from participating in business visits and networking activities in Portugal, the Macao entrepreneur delegation also participated in the China-Portugal Enterprises Trade and Economic Networking Seminar – Trade, Investment and Production Capacity Co-operation under the Framework of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) and Business Networking Cocktail Reception. During the event, agreements for four projects have been signed and 16 business-matching sessions have been conducted.

After the visit in Portugal, the delegation visited Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo in Brazil respectively and conducted networking meetings with local government and business associations, as well as visiting Chinese enterprises in Brazil and participated in the China-Brazil Enterprises Trade and Economic Networking Cocktail Reception and the China-Brazil Enterprises Trade and Economic Networking Seminar – Trade, Investment and Production Capacity Co-operation under the Framework of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao). The delegation aimed to further strengthen co-operation and networking between enterprises in Brazil and Macao and explore the potential for further collaboration.

The seminar was participated by 160 enterprises from Mainland China, Brazil and Macao. A total of 26 business matching sessions were conducted covering food, medical supplies, construction materials and mining industry. Agreements for three projects were also signed involving various aspects such as the establishment of a liaison and networking mechanism between business associations in Macao and Brazil.
