30th Asian Trade Promotion Forum

The 30th Asian Trade Promotion Forum (ATPF) was held in Hokkaido, Japan from 5 to 7 October. The forum was hosted by the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) and participated by nearly 40 representatives from trade promotion agencies (TPA) in Asian economies.

This year’s event was held under the theme of “The Role of TPOs in Free Trade-Realization of Inclusive Trade” and the forum was divided into three parts. Apart from the main theme, participants also conducted discussions on topics namely “Application of e-commerce”, “Promotion of innovation” and “Cultivation of human resources and recruitment of foreign talent”. During the event, IPIM’s President Jackson Chang introduced Macao’s strengths as a Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, the supporting software, hardware and services, as well as sharing IPIM’s efforts and experience in manpower training, especially those related to the convention and exhibition industry.

At the event, the ATPF Organiser announced that, ATPF members voted that the 8th ATPF and exhibition will be held in Macao for the first time and will be held concurrently with the 23rd Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (23rd MIF). The announcement was followed by a briefing on MIF given by IPIM’s representative.


IPIM Organises Macao Entrepreneur Delegation to Participate in China Food and Catering Expo

IPIM was invited to organise a Macao entrepreneur delegation to take part in the China Food and Catering Expo (CFCE) in Hunan from 14 to 17 September. The delegation took the opportunity to promote Macao’s strength as a Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and PSCs, as well as assisting Mainland to introduce quality PSCs food products and explore new horizons in food and beverage businesses.

Apart from the CFCE opening ceremony and related activities, the Macao entrepreneur delegation also attended the Promotional Seminar on Business Opportunities of PSCs Food Products Agents in Macao, co-organised by IPIM and the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province. During the seminar, IPIM’s President Jackson Chang gave a speech and some members of the delegation also briefed participants on their company’s businesses, as well as the food and beverage products that they serves as the agent. The event attracted the participation of more than 40 enterprises from Hunan and Macao.

During the stay in Changsha, the delegation visited the Changsha Gaoqiao Market, the third largest wholesale market in China, as well as the Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries Products Exhibition and Sales Centre set up at the Imported Commodities Zone in the market. IPIM also set up a PSCs Products Exhibition Counter in the Exhibition and Sales Centre to promote and publicise PSCs products as well as assisting them in tapping the Mainland market. The delegation also visited a sales centre for Macao’s featured products, the Rua de Macau, and a specialty shop of a crystal brand set up by Macao enterprises. The delegation exchanged views with the enterprises and acquire further details on the potential of the Mainland retail market and the manpower resources market, so as to better prepare for the future development of the domestic market.

The Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Expo (the Expo) was hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Sub-council with IPIM as one of the supporting organisations. The event was held in Dongguan from 21 to 24 September.

To promote trade and economic collaboration and networking between enterprises in Macao and Mainland, IPIM organised a Macao entrepreneur delegation of 23 to participate in the Expo from 20 to 21 September. The Macao Pavilion was set up to promote Macao’s latest investment environment, IPIM’s services as well as recent trade and economic conferences and exhibitions. It also promoted Macao’s development as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure as well as the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. It plays a unique role in the development of the national Belt and Road initiative and creates new opportunities for external trade and economic collaborations. Regional co-operation creates more business opportunities for tourism, convention and exhibition, traditional Chinese medicine and specialised financial services. IPIM also organised 18 enterprises from Macao and PSCs to participate in the exhibition, showcasing products including food and beverage, souvenir, as well as PSCs food and wine.


IPIM Participates in the 2nd China- Mongolia Expo

Macao entrepreneur delegation at the Macao Pavilion

IPIM organised a Macao entrepreneur delegation of 20 to participate in the 2nd China- Mongolia Expo held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from 25 to 27 September.

The delegation visited the Expo and participated in various forums and conventions. IPIM also set up the Macao Pavilion to promote the latest investment environment and its strength as a Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, IPIM’s services, as well as the various MICE events held in the city and the Guangdong-Macao Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park.

During the visit, IPIM and the Bureau of Commerce of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region co-organised the Business Matching Seminar on Economic & Trade Co-operation and Human Resources Portal between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries and the Three Centres. Speeches were given by IPIM’s President Jackson Chang and the Director of the Bureau of Commerce of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Sun Weidong. IPIM’s representative also briefed the participants on the 22nd MIF and 2017 PLPEX held in October, and on-site presentations were given by Macao entrepreneur to promote their products and services. More than 60 Inner Mongolia enterprises participated in the event and networking and business meetings were conducted between businesses from the two sides.

The delegation also visited the Inner Mongolia Institute of Graphene Materials and the Inner Mongolia Science and Technology Co Ltd, and attended a luncheon hosted by the Vice Chairman of the People’s Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Ai Lihu.

Organised by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Mozambique, the 53th Maputo International Trade Fair (FACIM) took place from August 28 to September 3, at Ricalta, the Marracuene District of Maputo Province. IPIM’s Executive Director Irene V. K. Lau attended the said event, and during her stay in Mozambique visited the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Mozambique, local government agencies, business associations and chambers of commerce, to further promote the exchanges and co-operation between Mozambique and Macao in the fields of economy, trade and convention and exhibition.

IPIM set up a “Macao Pavilion” at the venue, principally to display and promote the latest investment environment in Macao and the services provided by the said agency.

Furthermore, during their stay in Maputo, IPIM representatives paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Mozambique where they were received by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Su Jian and Economic and Commercial Counsellor Liu Xiaoguang. During the meeting, both sides exchanged opinions on how to better assist Mainland China and Macao enterprises in tapping the Portuguese-speaking Countries’ market.

The Executive Director also visited Mozambique Investment and Export Promotion Agency, Mozambique Chamber of Commerce and Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique. During the meeting with the Director-General of Mozambique Investment and Export Promotion Agency, Lourenço Sambo, the two sides exchanged views on how to further promote co-operation in the areas of trade and conventions and exhibitions. The Executive Director also invited the said agency to participate in the 22nd Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF), and the Exhibition of Products and Services of Portuguese-speaking Countries 2017 (PLPEX 2017), both scheduled for October.

IPIM arranged for a new delegation to visit Beijing on 23 to 24 August, to participate in the China (Beijing) Incentive, Business Travel & meetings Exhibition (CIBTM 2017).

IPIM set up a “Macao Pavilion” at the venue of CIBTM 2017, to highlight the theme “Macao – Your Business Events Destination”. Promotion counters were set up inside the Macao Pavilion, to provide display platforms for 30 Macao’s hotels, travel agents, professional event organisers, destination management companies and conference service providers. Over 500 business-matching sessions were arranged and received enthusiastic response.

IPIM also organised promotional activities during the event, with the participation of over 80 guests, including Macao’s convention and exhibition enterprises participating as exhibitors at the CIBTM 2017, and Mainland China’s convention and exhibition service providers and company representatives, as a means to intensify exchanges and co-operation. At the venue, IPIM’s Executive Director Irene V. K. Lau promoted Macao’s MICE Industry and the “One-Stop Service” for MICE Bidding and Support in Macao, aiming to attract a larger number of conventions and exhibitions to be held in Macao.


Macao Entrepreneur Delegation Participates in the 2017 China International Fair for Investment and Trade

A Macao entrepreneur delegation of 30 was organised by IPIM to participate in the 2017 China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) in Xiamen from 17 to 19 September.

The delegation attended various CIFIT forums and conferences as well as the networking activities organised by the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition Affairs. IPIM set up the Macao Pavilion at CIFIT and focused on promoting the latest investment environment, showcasing PSCs’ food and beverage, as well as publicising the Economic & Trade Co-operation and Human Resources Portal between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (the Portal) and Macao’s strength as a Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and PSCs, IPIM’s services as well as the conventions and exhibitions held in Macao.

During CIFIT, Macao enterprises signed four co-operation agreements involving cross-boundary collaboration in E-commerce, the study on the establishment of an ocean-related hazards monitoring and warning system as well as traditional Chinese medicine.


Incentive Travel & Conventions, Meetings Asia (IT&CMA)

IPIM organised a delegation of representatives from the convention, exhibition and tourism industries to participate in the Incentive Travel & Conventions, Meetings Asia (IT&CMA) in Bangkok, Thailand, from 26 to 28 September, to promote Macao’s conventions and exhibitions.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of IT&CMA, and at the recommendation of Macao’s convention and exhibition industry, IPIM organised local enterprises to participate in the event for the first time and also set up a Macao Pavilion. Under the theme of “Macao – Your Business Events Destination”, the Macao Pavilion provided a showcase platform for 26 local enterprises including hotels, travel agencies, professional event organisers, destination management companies and conference service providers. A total of 400 business matching sessions were held.

During IT&CMA, IPIM also organised promotional activities which were participated in by more than 50 Macao exhibitors, professional buyers and exhibition service providers. It provided them with the opportunities for networking and exchanges and laid a good foundation for future co-operation. Aiming to attract a greater number of conventions and exhibitions to Macao, IPIM’s Executive Director Irene V. K. Lau introduced the advantages of holding conventions and exhibitions in Macao as well as the “One-Stop Service” for MICE Bidding and Support in Macao provided by IPIM.


IPIM Organises Portuguese-speaking Countries Products Promotion and Business Matching Events in Chengdu

The Portuguese-speaking Countries Products Promotion and Business Matching Session and Portuguese-speaking Countries Products Promotion, hosted by IPIM and co-organised by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Commerce and the China Council for the Promotion International Trade Sichuan Sub-council, as well as co-ordinated by various business associations of Chengdu City, Sichuan Province and Macao, were held in Chengdu from 10 to 13 August. Chengdu was the first venue for the series of events in southwestern China. IPIM organised 17 Macao and PSCs enterprises to participate in the events in Chengdu and conducted B2B business matching sessions with trade visitors.

During the Portuguese-speaking Countries Products Promotion and Business Matching Session, 17 local enterprises and PSCs food suppliers engaging in the trade in PSCs food products took part in the business matching sessions and showcased a number of PSCs food and beverage. The event attracted more than 100 buyers to participate in the food tasting and business negotiation, and a total of 70 business meetings were conducted.

The Portuguese-speaking Countries Products Promotion – Chengdu has, for the first time, introduced PSCs cultural performances, including PSCs music show, Portuguese snacks cooking demonstration, wine tasting, onsite food sales and interactive games. The event enabled Mainland citizens to have deeper understanding of the characteristics of PSCs culture and food. Fifteen exhibitors participated in the on-site promotion of PSCs food such as wine, coffee, snacks, canned food and honey. The three-day event attracted more than 20,000 visitors.


IPIM Organises Portuguese-speaking Countries Products Promotion and Business Matching Events in Hangzhou

Opening of the Portuguese-speaking Countries Products Promotion – Hangzhou

A series of activities namely the Portuguese-speaking Countries Products Promotion and Business Matching Session and the Portuguese-speaking Countries Products Promotion – Hangzhou were successfully held in Hangzhou from 28 September to 1 October. The events were hosted by IPIM and co-organised by the government department of Zhejiang province, Hangzhou city, as well as various business associations of Macao and Hangzhou.

The Portuguese-speaking Countries Products Promotion – Hangzhou was the first event held in a Macao-invested venue on the Mainland. A speech was given by IPIM’s Executive Director Gloria Ung.

The three-day PSCs products promotion series activities were participated by 18 Macao and PSCs enterprises which promoted various types of food products including wine, coffee, snacks, canned food and honey. Body care products, cleansing and moisturizing products, as well as laundry products were also showcased for the first time. The promotion event attracted around 30,000 members of the public to purchase PSCs products, the business matching sessions were participated by more than 70 buyers and conducted on site business negotiations and matching sessions. Portuguese folk dance and other performances were also available to bring PSCs’ culture to Hangzhou and the activity was well-received by the general public.

Hangzhou is the location of the first IPIM’s Mainland liaison office and has been set up for ten years. A station of the PSCs Food Products Exhibition Centre was set up in Hangzhou to enable Mainland citizens and trade visitors to learn more about PSCs food products. Trade visitors can also utilise enterprise consultation and networking service provided by the liaison office to explore their business and market.


The Seminar on “Portuguese-Speaking-Countries Business Opportunity series – Experience sharing on trade and Business Environment Promotion”

The Seminar on “Portuguese-Speaking-Countries Business Opportunity series – Experience sharing on trade and Business Environment Promotion”, co-organised by IPIM and the Permanent Secretariat to the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), was held on 20 September at the Macao Business Support Centre. The event attracted over 80 representatives from local trade and investment agencies.

Speeches were given by IPIM’s Executive Director Gloria Ung and Deputy Secretary-General of the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) Ding Tian. Third class business secretary from West Asia and Africa of Ministry of Commerce Deng Le talked about the trade and economic policy and liaisons between China and PSCs in Africa, focusing on bilateral trade and economic co-operation, development strategy as well as priority areas of collaboration between China and four PSCs namely Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe, as well as briefing on the Forum on China-Africa Co-operation (FOCAC).

The organisers of the seminar also invited enterprises which have invested and conducted businesses in Cape Verde and Mozambique to give thematic speeches and share their valuable experience. Q&A and business matching sessions were also conducted to enable participants to have more understanding of the trade and economic co-operation with PSCs, as well as assisting enterprises to seek business opportunities, to effectively promote trade and economic collaboration and development between the two sides.


IPIM and GPDP Meet with Members of National Commission for Data Protection of Cape Verde

A meeting was held between the Office of Personal Data Protection Macao SAR (GPDP), IPIM and the delegation of the National Commission for Data Protection of Cape Verde, on 22 September.

During the meeting, members of the National Commission for Data Protection of Cape Verde and GPDP shared the experience in the implementation of the personal data protection law in the respective region. IPIM’s Executive Director Gloria Ung was invited by GPDP to introduce Macao’s role as the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries and its development. The participating parties also conducted discussion and exchanged views on the legal system of personal data protection and the service platform between China and PSCs.

Members attending the meeting included the President of the National Commission for Data Protection of Cape Verde Faustino Varela Monteiro and Co-ordinator of the Office of Personal Data Protection Macao SAR Yang Chongwei.
