Guangzhou and Macao Launch Various Co-operation Projects To Create Business Opportunities For Enterprises

    Guangzhou and Macao have established a close working relationship over a long period of time. The Framework Agreement on Guangdong-Macao Co-operation (the Framework Agreement) signed in March this year identifies the plan for collaboration between Macao and Nansha, Guangzhou. During the Guangzhou-Macao Co-operation Meeting held in Nansha, Guangzhou in July, four co-operation agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed between Guangzhou and Macao involving tourism, trade and business, conventions and exhibitions, to create business development opportunities for industrial and business sectors between the two sides.

    Two co-operation documents were signed by Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) with the Bureau of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation of Guangzhou Municipality and CCPIT Guangzhou Sub-council respectively, including the co-organisation of the 2012 Macao-Guangzhou Branded Products Fair in Guangzhou from 13 to 15 January 2102. The Fair will include food products, souvenirs, cultural and creative commodities, Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs) products and other commodities. The event will help to promote business-matching and co-operation between Macao’s and Guangdong’s exhibition industries, and publicise Macao and Guangzhou brands, branded products/services, authentic original designs, specialty products and agencies commodities. It will enable participating enterprises and business visitors to explore the Mainland and PSCs market and foster trade and economic co-operation between the two cities.

    Growing Guangzhou- Macao Trade and Economic Interaction

    Guangzhou and Macao developed closer interaction in 2011. The Macao Seminar on the Implementation of CEPA Pioneer Demonstration Zone in Nansha was held in January and in April, the Agreement on the Joint Implementation of the CEPA Pioneer Demonstration Zone in Nansha was signed followed by the establishment of the Guangzhou-Macao Co-operation Working Group.

    IPIM organised a Macao entrepreneur delegation to conduct a fact-finding visit to Nansha in April, and organised a Seminar on Investment Environment and Projects in Nansha New District in Guangzhou. Representatives from IACM Macao and Macao Economic Services also visited Nansha district in August to explore the possibility of introducing high quality and safe live agricultural products from the Nansha district into Macao, with the objective of introducing more sources and channels of live food itemsand foster co-operation in agricultural products between the two cities.

    Four Co-operation Documents Signed At Guangzhou – Macao Co-operation Meeting

    The focus of Guangzhou-Macao collaboration this year was the Guangzhou- Macao Co-operation Meeting held in Nansha in July. Four co-operation documents have been signed between the two parties to commence collaboration in conventions and exhibitions, tourism, service as well as trade and economy. The four documents are the Agreement on Strengthening Guangzhou-Macao Convention and Exhibition Industry Co-operation, Memorandum of Co-operation for 2012 Macao-Guangzhou Branded Products Fair, Memorandum on Strengthening Guangzhou- Macao Tourism Co-operation and the Cooperation Agreement on the Organisation of 2011 Guangzhou-Macao Business Organisations Conference and Industry Cooperation and Matching Seminar. The four co-operation documents set out the details of specific working arrangements, implying that collaboration between the two cities will be accelerated.

    Direction of the next stage of Guangzhou-Macao co-operation was discussed at the Meeting, there were detailed discussions on the implementation of the Agreement on the Joint Implementation of the CEPA Pioneer Demonstration Zone in Nansha and breakthroughs in trade and economy, tourism, education, culture and people’s livelihoods. Regarding trade and economic co-operation, active support and assistance will be given to Macao industries to invest and start up in Nansha, and continue to make use of Macao’s role as a business service platform between China and PSCs, to proactively complement Nansha’s strategy in exploring international markets of “going global and bringing in investments”. In tourism, the authorities will integrate the strengths of Nansha and Macao and work together as partners in tourism and organise combined tour routes, as well as focusing on promoting the development of the cruise liner terminal in Nansha. Regarding conventions and exhibitions, a collaboration and co-ordination working group will be set up to enhance the alliance and communication mechanism, and encourage industry operators to take part in each other’s exhibitions and co-organise various exhibitions, and introduce international branded conventions and exhibitions into the region. Regarding education, both parties will explore the possibilities of co-organising Portuguese language and training courses to provide more Portuguese-speaking professionals and also work on co-operation in vocational training in the two cities. On cultural development, the two parties aim to encourage enterprise investors to invest in Nansha culture and creative projects and foster the development of cultural and creative collaboration in film making and television production, animation and comics as well as education and training. Reciprocation in livelihood issues as in live agricultural products and co-operation in telecommunications and information technology by utilising complementary advantages.

    16th Macao International Trade And Investment Fair (MIF) To Set Up Nansha Exhibition Area And Organise Promotional Activities

    Seminar on Investment Environment and Projects in Nansha New District in Guangzhou

    A Nansha Exhibition Area will be set up at the 16th Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF) to be held from 20 to 23 October, and a Seminar on the Investment Environment in Nansha Development Area will also be held, to provide business opportunities to participating enterprises, particularly SMEs. It will also organise on-site fact-finding visits for participating business visitors to smooth the progress of reciprocation between Guangzhou and Macao enterprises.
