Chinese exports of passenger vehicles to Brazil saw an exponential jump of 372.4% in the first four months of this year and totaled US$ 762 million. Chinese electric cars accounted for 36.2% of Brazil’s total imports in the first four months of the year. With these figures, electric cars were the fourth product shipped by the Chinese to the country in the January-April period.

Last year, when imports were at their highest, the aggressive Chinese car industry shipped a total of US$1.086 billion worth of passenger cars to Brazil, an increase of 482% compared to the previous year. By 2024, this total will have more than doubled.

In a recent interview, the president of GM in South America, Santiago Chamorro, said that 20 new Chinese manufacturers have been acting to participate in the Brazilian market. Among them are GAC, Xpend, Changan, MG and Huawei, which has a strong presence in Brazil for its cell phones and other telecommunications equipment.
