In the wake of the surge in Chinese vehicles on the Brazilian market, imports of auto parts from the Asian country have also accelerated at the start of the year. A balance sheet published by Sindipeças shows purchases of almost US$ 560 million from China in the first two months of the year, an increase of 18.3% on the R$ 472.8 million in the same period in 2023.

China accounts for 18.3% of all auto parts shipped to Brazil, followed by the United States, with 11%. In this case, the year-on-year increase was just 2%, from US$ 324.5 million to US$ 331 million.

Purchases from Japan also grew, from US$ 228.8 million to US$ 297 million, an increase of a significant 29.8%. Imports from Germany and Mexico fell by 12.3% and 8.4% respectively.

In total, imports amounted to US$ 3 billion in the first two months of the year, a positive variation of 3.4% compared to the same period last year (US$ 2.9 billion). As exports fell, the trade deficit grew by 17.8% in the same comparison, to US$ 1.9 billion.
