According to Chinese diplomacy, the agreement signed between China and Brazil for the reciprocal granting of visas for up to 10 years for leisure, business or family travel will come into force on February 19.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the visas will allow multiple entries and a stay of up to 90 days per visit, up to a maximum of 180 days with a total stay period within 12 months after first entry.

The agreement that made this measure possible was signed in Brasília, in January 2023 by the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, and his Brazilian counterpart, Mauro Vieira, within the scope of the IV Meeting of the Brazil-China Global Strategic Dialogue, although at the time, the date on which it would come into effect was not specified.

According to data from the South American country’s tourism authority, 42,500 Chinese tourists visited Brazil last year, still below the 68,580 registered in 2019 before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
