[2023-03-09] Chinese doctors treated 350 pupils in São Tomé and Príncipe

The mission of the 17th Chinese medical team in São Tomé and Príncipe is nearing its end. The oral health of the country’s children has been one of the main activities carried out by Chinese doctors in recent years.

The secondary school of the city of Trindade, capital of the district of Mé-zochi, was chosen to carry out free oral examinations and dental fluoridation.

A process that is characterized by the application of fluoride foam in the mouth to prevent tooth decay. 350 students were treated.

To improve the oral health of the young in São Tomé and Príncipe, the team launched a dental fluoridation project for the young in São Tomé and Príncipe on the 28th of April in 2022 to prevent tooth decay, explained the surgeon Yang Yi, head of the Chinese medical team. At the national level, at least 1,800 children from 12 secondary schools and an orphanage have benefited from free oral and dental health care.
