[2019-09-09] Qatar Airways starts flights to Angola in 2020

Qatar Airways’ inaugural flight to Luanda will take place on 29 March 2020, Angola’s Transport Minister Ricardo d’Abreu said on Sunday in Doha.

The minister said the route would be offered using a Boeing 727 “Dreamliner” aircraft and took the opportunity to dispel rumors about the sale of TAAG shares to Qatar Airways.

Angolan flagship air carrier TAAG is in the process of restructuring and modernisation ahead of privatisation, scheduled for 2021.

The minister, quoted by the Angop news agency, acknowledged that privatisation is an important step for the company, but it needed to identify partners before this sale could take place.

D’Abreu, who was part of the delegation of President João Lourenço’s visit to Qatar, mentioned, among the signed agreements, the memorandum of understanding between the Qatar Port Management Company (Mwani) and the Angolan Port Maritime Institute (IMPA) “for cooperation between the port authorities of the two countries and their management of the port systems.”

The trip culminated in the signing, in Doha, of six agreements of common understanding that “mark a new stage of economic cooperation in various sectors” between two oil and natural gas producing countries.
