The Port of Luanda has already started to receive proposals from several companies for the public tender launched to draw up a port development plan “that will increase operational capacity,” the chairman of the Angolan-owned port management company announced in Luanda.

Alberto Bengue, who was speaking on the sidelines of the 3rd round table of the Angolan Ports Association (Apang), said that the development plan aims to transform the port of Luanda into a benchmark, equipped with advanced technologies and equipment to dock fifth and sixth generation ships.

The president of the Port of Luanda said that the board intends to start work in 2022, with the construction of a cruise terminal, a new container terminal, a liquid cargo terminal, a general cargo terminal and a multipurpose terminal.

The plan should also include dredging of the port in order to increase the depth to between 14 and 16 metres, which is sufficient to allow the operation of large draft vessels, according to Jornal de Angola.
