[2019-01-23] Trade between China and Portuguese-speaking countries exceeds US$134 billion from January to November 2018

The value of trade between China and the eight Portuguese-speaking countries totalled US$134.981 billion in the January-November 2018 period, a year-on-year increase of 25.27%, according to official Chinese figures released by Forum Macau.

In the first 11 months of the year China exported goods worth US$38.311 billion (a year-on-year increase of 16.10%) and imported goods worth US$96.669 billion (+29.31%), recording a deficit of US$58.358 billion.

Brazil, China’s main trading partner worldwide, accounted for 75% of total trade in the period, selling products worth US$70.666 billion (+31.40%) to China, and purchasing goods worth US$30.887 billion (+17.65%).

Two-way trade between China and Brazil over the first 11 months of the year showed year-on-year growth of 26.89%, according to official Chinese figures.

Angola ranks second in terms of value, with trade totalling US$25.362 billion (+22.78%), with China selling goods worth US$2.046 billion (-2.36%), and buying products worth US$23.315 billion (+25.62%).

Portugal is in third place with bilateral trade worth US$5.535 billion (+7.49%), as a result of Chinese exports of US$3.447 billion (+7.05%) and Portuguese exports of US$2.088 billion (+8.23%).

China’s bilateral trade with Mozambique reached US$2.324 billion (+37.66%) in the period, with China selling goods worth US$1.734 billion (+43.89%) and buying goods in the amount of US$589 million (+22.11%).

China’s trade with the other Portuguese-speaking countries – Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), Guinea Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste (East Timor) – totalled US$205 million.
