The production of electricity at the Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric Power Plant (HCB) in the central Mozambican province of Tete totalled 13,659 gigawatt hours in 2018, an annual increase of 1.39%, the company said in a statement.

HCB said this level of production was achieved in a year in which, due to the hydrological management measures taken by the company, along with the improvement of inflows, there was a gradual improvement of water storage in the Cahora Bassa reservoir.

The company has set a production target of 14,809 gigawatt hours for 2019.

The document added that, in order to guarantee the stability of the company, make critical investment programmes and the sale of 7.5% of the shares representing the capital stock of Cahora Bassa Hidroeléctrica possible, the government had approved the extension of the exploration concession of the facility for another 15 years starting in 2033.

HCB is a Mozambican company established on 23 June, 1975, located in the town of Songo, in the province of Tete, whose purpose is to produce electricity from the Cahora Bassa dam.
