[2019/10/08]2019 Summit on Chinese Central SOEs Supporting Macao as Co-operation Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries to be held on 16 October
The 2019 Summit on Chinese Central SOEs Supporting Macao as Co-operation Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries is taking place on 16 October in Macao, under the theme “Exploring New Opportunities in the New Era of Co-operation”. The event is organised by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China and by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China. The Summit’s coordinating entity is the Secretariat for Economy and Finance of the Government of the Macao SAR. The event is supported by the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR. The Summit’s co-organiser is the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM).
The 12th and 13th Five-Year Plans of the People’s Republic of China clearly show the country’s support for Macao’s position as a Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. With strong support from the Central Government, the Macao SAR Government has been fully implementing and further developing the functions and the effectiveness of the city’s role as a co-operation platform. That is in tandem with Macao’s active participation in – and contributions to – the country’s “Belt and Road” Initiative, and Macao’s position as a “core engine” within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, as set out in the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Such strategies all contribute to promote Macao’s moderate economic diversification.
Close to 400 people have been invited to this year’s Summit, furthering the positive results achieved by the Summit’s first edition in 2017. Invitees include representatives from: ministerial bodies from the Central Government; central state-owned enterprises (SOEs); enterprises from Portuguese-speaking Countries; enterprises, local trade chambers, business associations, commercial departments and organisations from Macao. This year’s Summit features a series of activities, including keynote speeches, agreement signing ceremony and panel sessions. The panel sessions will focus on discussion on infrastructure development, featured finance, and technological innovation.
The Summit is expected to strengthen the interaction between central SOEs and Macao enterprises. By making use of the competitive advantages of central SOEs – including their available talents and capital, new technologies, wide networks, and rich experience – the Summit will further promote Macao’s role as a co-operation platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. The event will actively boost collaboration between central SOEs and enterprises from either Macao or Portuguese-speaking Countries, so that they can take part in joint efforts to explore new markets. Moreover, all parties will be able to take this opportunity to seek further co-operation, “bring in investment” and “go global”.
The 2017 Summit on Chinese Central SOEs Supporting Macao as Co-operation Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries was joined by a large number of representatives of enterprises from Mainland China, Portuguese-speaking Countries or Macao
