External Merchandise Trade Statistics for September 2021

In the third quarter of 2021, total value of merchandise export (MOP3.17 billion) and merchandise import (MOP39.53 billion) grew by 10.0% and 49.5% respectively year-on-year, resulting in a trade deficit of MOP36.36 billion.
From January to September this year, total value of merchandise export increased by 25.6% year-on-year to MOP9.87 billion, of which values of re-exports (MOP8.40 billion) and domestic exports (MOP1.47 billion) went up by 25.1% and 28.6% respectively. Total value of merchandise import expanded by 103.0% year-on-year to MOP113.26 billion. Merchandise trade deficit totalled MOP103.39 billion for the first nine months of 2021, up by MOP55.45 billion from MOP47.94 billion a year earlier.
Analysed by destination, merchandise export to mainland China from January to September 2021 rose by 25.1% year-on-year to MOP1.52 billion, of which exports to the Nine Provinces of the Pan Pearl River Delta (MOP1.37 billion) increased by 21.8%. Exports to Hong Kong (MOP6.83 billion), the USA (MOP509 million) and the EU (MOP143 million) grew by 27.2%, 22.1% and 4.2% respectively year-on-year. Exports to the Belt and Road Countries (MOP242 million) expanded by 9.4%, while exports to the Portuguese-speaking Countries (MOP6 million) declined by 45.7%. Exports of Textiles & garments dropped by 6.6% year-on-year to MOP1.16 billion, while exports of Non-textiles went up by 31.7% to MOP8.71 billion.
By place of origin, merchandise import from mainland China (MOP36.52 billion) and the EU (MOP35.79 billion) in the first nine months of 2021 surged by 102.7% and 132.7% respectively year-on-year. Imports from the Belt and Road Countries (MOP18.53 billion) and the Portuguese-speaking Countries (MOP522 million) jumped by 100.2% and 1.5% respectively. Analysed by place of consignment, merchandise import from Hong Kong (MOP97.29 billion) showed an upsurge of 119.5% year-on-year. Imports from mainland China expanded by 35.6% to MOP12.22 billion, with imports from the Nine Provinces of the Pan Pearl River Delta (MOP11.93 billion) rising by 34.7%. Imports of Consumer goods soared by 107.8% to MOP80.92 billion, of which imports of Garments & footwear (MOP10.13 billion), Watches (MOP9.29 billion), Handbags & wallets (MOP8.14 billion) and Gold jewellery (MOP7.13 billion) ballooned by 122.9%, 271.8%, 222.8% and 375.3% respectively. Besides, imports of Mobile phones (MOP14.14 billion) leapt by 610.5%. Imports of Fuels & lubricants (MOP4.57 billion) and Construction materials (MOP2.28 billion) registered respective growth of 15.0% and 70.4%.
External merchandise trade totalled MOP123.13 billion from January to September 2021, up by 93.4% compared with MOP63.66 billion a year earlier.
