Visitor arrivals for September 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals soared by 53.7% month-on-month to 629,085 in September 2021, attributable to the easing of entry and exit requirements of Macao that took place during most of the month; the figure also represented a growth of 40.1% year-on-year. Numbers of same-day visitors (348,058) and overnight visitors (281,027) rose by 20.2% and 76.1% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors went up by 0.6 day year-on-year to 1.6 days, with that of overnight visitors (3.3 days) extending by 0.6 day whereas that of same-day visitors (0.1 day) remaining unchanged.

In terms of source of visitors, number of Mainland visitors surged by 41.4% year-on-year to 583,056, with 178,325 of them travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme. Visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area totalled 339,636, of whom 55.4% came from Zhuhai. Besides, there were 41,156 visitors from Hong Kong and 4,813 from Taiwan.

Analysed by checkpoint, number of visitor arrivals by land went up by 32.6% year-on-year to 582,909 in September. Among them, 74.2% arrived through the Border Gate, 17.5% came via the Hengqin Port and 5.7% through the Qingmao Port. Meanwhile, visitor arrivals by air and by sea totalled 31,855 and 14,321 respectively.

In the first three quarters of 2021, number of visitor arrivals grew by 43.2% year-on-year to 5,755,528. Overnight visitors (2,903,660) and same-day visitors (2,851,868) increased by 61.3% and 28.5% year-on-year respectively. The average length of stay of visitors rose by 0.2 day year-on-year to 1.6 days; the duration for overnight visitors (3.1 days) lengthened by 0.3 day whereas that for same-day visitors (0.1 day) decreased by 0.1 day.
