“Macao Week in Shanghai”

The “Macao Week in Shanghai” had a mega roadshow along the Yuanmingyuan Road Pedestrian Street at Waitanyuan from 3 to 7 June, promoting Macao’s diverse tourism and trade elements, demonstrating what the city can offer with the “tourism +” approach, while promoting the image of Macao as a healthy, safe travel destination, with a view to driving mainland tourists to visit Macao.

Officiating guests of the opening ceremony included: Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region Ho Iat Seng, Mayor of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government Gong Zheng, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR Yao Jian, Deputy Mayor of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government Chen Tong, Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macao Lei Wai Nong, Secretary-General of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government Ma Chunlei, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ao Ieong U, Deputy Director and Level-one Inspector of the Communication Department of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Liu Wenda, Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, Director of Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism Fang Shizhong, President of IPIM Benson Lau Wai Meng and Secretary of the Huangpu District Party Committee Gao Yun.

IPIM and the Shanghai Council for the Promotion of International Trade jointly held the Shanghai-Macao Business Matching Session on the first day of the “Macao Week in Shanghai”. Around 110 entrepreneurs from various sectors including trade, food/product wholesale and retail, e-commerce, tourism and hotels, attended the event. A total of 96 meetings were arranged during the session, covering topics such as wholesale of food souvenirs and wine, retail of high-quality goods, and food and beverage business co-operation, facilitating further the co-operation between companies from the two cities in expanding the market together.

In addition, the Macao Government Tourism Office and IPIM organised the “Macao Week in Shanghai – Macao Tourism and MICE Promotion Seminar”, giving more exposure to the advantages of Macao’s tourism and MICE sectors, allowing the information sharing and collaboration between industrial players from Shanghai and Macao, promoting the image of Macao as a healthy, safe travel destination.

Around 150 people participated in the promotion seminar, including Deputy Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office Cheng Wai Tong, Executive Director of IPIM Sam C. S. Lei, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism Cheng Meihong, representatives of tourism and MICE sectors from Shanghai and Macao.

IPIM organised participation from nearly 40 local enterprises of made-in-Macao products and Macao brands and agents of Portuguese-speaking Countries’ products to partake in the “Macao Week in Shanghai”. In addition to roadshow, tourism and MICE promotion seminars, business matching sessions and Macao product tasting sessions, a number of influencers from Macao and Mainland China were arranged to host live streams at the exhibition venue in a bid to promote the event through both online and offline channels.

More than 90 million views were recorded for the live streams and rebroadcasts of the event. IPIM’s arrangements for the event also included music band performances at the venue, the four mascots of the “Let’s Hang Out” event photos with participants, a “popular slang wall” and four “Let’s Hang Out interactive photo-taking spots” were also set up, livening up the atmosphere and attracted many visitors to take photos.
