The Angolan Ministry of Energy and Water plans to install more than 300 megawatts of solar energy in different parts of the country throughout 2020, said on Tuesday in Addis Ababa, the Energy and Water Minister.

João Baptista Borges, who took part in a forum on business in Africa, on the sidelines of the 33rd African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, said that the solar farms would be installed in Benguela, in Luena (Moxico province), Saurimo (Lunda Sul), Dundo (Lunda Norte) and Bailundo (Huambo).

The minister said that the cost of installing the solar power plants is estimated at US$500 million, as a two-year project, and added that the aim is to make increasing use of renewable energy.

Baptista Borges added that the Ministry of Energy and Water is working with various partners to promote renewable energy projects, to expand them in remote areas of the country far away from the coast where electricity is very scarce.
