The first meeting of the Angola-Portugal Permanent Ministerial Commission will take place in Luanda in the first half of 2019, according to a statement released at the end of an official visit by the President of Portugal.

The statement said that in the second half of this year, a new round of senior political consultations will be organised in Lisbon (Portugal) to monitor the implementation of the agreements already signed.

The two countries noted the progress already seen, particularly the completion of the ratification process of the Convention on the Elimination of Double Taxation on Income Tax in order to prevent tax evasion and tax avoidance.

The parties said they appreciated the holding of this second meeting of the Investment Observatory and the Fourth Meeting of the focal points of the bilateral protocol on visa facilitation.

During the visit, which took place from 5 to 9 March, Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa held meetings with his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, focused on strengthening relations between the two countries, as well as analysing current regional and international issues.

Angola and Portugal established diplomatic relations on 9 March 9, 1976, and the European country is one of Angola’s main trading partners and Portuguese companies have a strong presence in the construction, banking, food and beverage export sectors.
