[2019/07/26] 2019 Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair Opens Today

2019 Guangdong & Macao Branded Products Fair (2019GMBPF), jointly hosted by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, is held at Hall B of the Venetian Macao on three consecutive days starting from today. This year’s GMBPF continues to incorporate various elements such as trade, cultural exchange, shopping, recreation and entertainment, the venue was filled with lively atmosphere on the first day.

At the opening ceremony, Mr Leong Vai Tac, Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macao SAR Government, said that the GMBPF is a key economic project which has been held for 11 years in a row. With the huge support of the Central Government and the concerted effort of governments and commercial industries of Guangdong and Macao, the GMBPF persists in branding and nurturing the professionalism and internationalisation of itself. Its endeavour has turned itself a quality and branded event in both Macao and the Greater Bay Area. The country attaches great importance to the cultivation of young talents, and it pins great hopes on the youth’s innovative and entrepreneurial endeavours in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This year’s GMBPF introduces an exhibition zone named “The Power of Greater Bay Area Youth-Young Entrepreneurs Area”, in a bid to guide and motivate youngsters to take an active part in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Deputy Secretary General Lin Ji of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province said that since the introduction of the Belt and Road Initiative, Guangdong has been giving full play to its strengths in the advanced manufacturing industry and external business and trade co-operation, while Macao has been utilising its role as an intermediary between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and a commercially and culturally diversified platform. Together, Guangdong and Macao are building a strategic pillar for the construction of the Belt and Road. In 2018, the volume of imports and exports between Guangdong and Macao totalled USD 2.03 billion, among which the volume of service-related imports and exports reached USD 4.62 billion. As of the end of June 2019, Macao’s investment in Guangdong totalled USD 10.91 billion and Guangdong’s investment in Macao stood at USD 503 million. Achievements made under Guangdong-Macao co-operation were impressive.

On the first day, the “Round Table Meeting for Commercial Institutions in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” was held. During the meeting, Mrs Irene Va Kuan Lau, President of Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, said that the meeting was held against the backdrop of the introduction of the “Outline Development Plan for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”, and the participants in the meeting discussed how to fully utilise Macao’s ties with Portuguese-speaking countries and to further facilitate collaboration among cities within the Greater Bay Area. Meanwhile, Mr Sam Lei, Executive Director of IPIM, introduced IPIM’s role in the development of the service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

The exhibition area of this year’s GMBPF is 9,000 square metres, with more than 400 exhibition booths encompassing a variety of commodities to enrich the fair, including daily necessities, jewellery and jade ware, clothing, handicrafts, and food. In addition, there are multiple “check points” and “game points” at the venue, attracting many visitors to take photos and try out the games. The “Celerity Cooking Live Show” upgrades itself this year by collaborating with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Junior Chefs’ Culinary Competition, which is jointly held with 11 cities within Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In addition, e-payments are also available at the fair this year.

The 2019GMBPF offers free admission to the general public from 10:00 am to 8:00pm on July 27 & 28 (Saturday and Sunday).
