[2019/10/24]IPIM – as Entity Committed to Promoting Macao as MICE Destination – Honoured with “Best Marketing-Destination” Award

The Macao Trade and Investment Institute (IPIM) was presented with the “Best Marketing-Destination” Award at the MICE China Forum & Awards Ceremony, held on 18 October. IPIM President Irene Va Kuan Lau received the award. The award follows several other recent accolades for IPIM and Macao, including the “Best Convention & Exhibition Bureau” at the 2018 TTG Travel Awards Ceremony, and the “Best MICE City – Asia” at the “M&C Asia Stella Awards 2019”, held in Singapore in August, which have all helped to raise the city’s international profile in this area.

The MICE China Forum & Awards Ceremony is hosted by Arch International Media Limited, a trade media company in the field of meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE). The awards event is supported by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA). The awards select and reward outstanding MICE destinations, hotel venues and MICE-related facilities, based on their respective marketing and sales performance in the previous year. The event organisers aim to stimulate the development of China’s MICE sector. The MICE China Forum & Awards Ceremony additionally serves as a networking platform for MICE professionals in the country.

This year’s edition brought together representatives from several renowned Chinese MICE companies, as well as professional conference organisers and conference-hotel executives. The MICE China Forum was hosted concurrently with the award ceremony, offering a platform for participants to discuss the impact of ongoing changes in China’s economy on the sector, and the sector’s development trends.

The “Best Marketing-Destination” Award honours organisations that have successfully promoted particular MICE destination in the China market via creative marketing approaches. Other recipients of this award at this year were: the GCB German Convention Bureau; the Hamburg Convention Bureau; the Singapore Tourism Board; and the Switzerland Convention & Incentive Bureau.

IPIM has been tasked by the Macao SAR Government since 2016 with coordinating and promoting the development of Macao’s MICE industry, striving to promote the city as a destination for conventions and exhibitions. This latest award recognises not only IPIM’s work in this field but also the collaborative efforts of the overall industry jointly to develop Macao as the top MICE destination in Asia, and to attract a greater number of high-quality international MICE events to the city.
