[2019/10/18] Conferences and Forums Stimulating Participants’ Fresh Thinking

Today (18 October) the 24th Macao International Trade & Investment Fair (24th MIF) and 2019 Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao) (2019PLPEX) continued to offer a series of professional conferences, forums and promotion sessions which attracted representatives from different industries to engage in the exchange and discussion. On the second day of the event, over 190 matching sessions took place at the Business Matching Area, and 30 agreements were signed. In addition, the Macao Industrial Modernization Matching Session resumed for the second day. Five enterprises took part in it, three of which showed their interest in acquiring ISO and M-Mark Macau Product Quality certification after the matching session.

On the 16th World Summit of Chinese Entrepreneurs, Mr Leong Vai Tac, the representative of the Chief Executive of Macao cum the Secretary for Economy and Finance, indicated that the World Summit of Chinese Entrepreneurs, which has been held since 2004, is an important communication platform for Chinese businesspersons worldwide. Every year, during the MIF, representatives of Chinese business associations, overseas and domestic Chinese businesspersons and experts from think tanks are gathered in Macao. Through the established communication mechanism of the global Chinese businesspersons institutions, they actively play the role as bridges and ties that join hands with all walks of life in Macao to join the construction of the Belt and Road and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area on a high level. Focusing on developing unimpeded trading, facilitating financing, and strengthening people-to-people bonds, the development is being promoted step by step and progress have been achieved gradually. With the theme of “New Technology, New Opportunities, and New Development”, the summit was organised by the World Federation of Chinese Entrepreneurs Organization, drawing over 1,500 representatives of Chinese entrepreneurs from different countries and regions around the world.

At the 5th Young Entrepreneurs Forum of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, organised by the Portugal-China Young Entrepreneurs Association and supported by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), Ms. Irene Va Kuan Lau, President of IPIM, expressed that the Forum aims to encourage young entrepreneurs to seize the historic opportunities  brought by the the “Belt and Road” Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, to make full use of a series of preferential policies, to forge ahead with determination and blaze new trails with pioneering spirit and entrepreneurship of young people, to achieve dreams and succeed, and to contribute to the deepening of the two-way co-operation and  multi-lateral exchange among Mainland China, Macao, Portuguese-speaking countries and countries along the Belt and Road. During the forum, participants were able to gain better understanding of new opportunities and trends of co-operation between enterprises from China and Portuguese-speaking countries, which is conducive to enhancing mutual exchange, promoting Chinese enterprises to invest in Portuguese-speaking countries, and helping enterprises in Portuguese-speaking countries expand their markets in China through Macao.

During the Greater Bay Area Technology Corridor and Macao Featured Finance Forum, representatives from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao spoke freely on Macao’s industrial and financial features. Debate was heating up over Macao’s tourism industry, finance industry, technology industry and scientific research. The discussion focused on the establishment of innovative science and technology industries, exchange and co-operation in the Greater Bay Area, as well as Macao’s advantages in developing featured finance industries. The participants agreed that in consideration of Macao’s special status as a Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, Macao’s featured finance industries should be combined with the development of the Belt and Road Initiative. Meanwhile, inter-regional financial co-operation should be strengthened. Financial services such as finance leasing, offshore finance, asset management, green finance and RMB clearing of Portuguese-speaking countries should be prioritised.

The Greater Bay Area Procurement Executives Roundtable invited more than 20 enterprises to discuss the procurement environment and trends in Mainland China and purchase strategies and demand of major supermarkets in Mainland China. The conference also arranged interactive exchanges and matching negotiations, to help enterprises explore business opportunities and achieve mutual benefit.

Tomorrow, the Portuguese-speaking Countries Food Tasting, the PSC Fashion Show, the “Style‧Encounter Moment” Fashion Parade of the Subsidy Programme for Fashion Design on Sample Making, as well as other programmes will take place.

Free shuttle buses traveling  between the exhibition venue and the stops at Rua do Mercado de lao Hon (opposite to Jardim de Iao Hon and near the Isquare Computer Plaza), Rua do Dr. Pedro José Lobo (near the Macau Square), Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida (near Pak Wai Bus Stop) and Rua de Seng Tou (near Urbanização Jardim Nova Taipa Block 21) are available to support green travel. The shuttle buses l are available from 9:30 to 18:30 departing from the stops every 15 to 30 minutes. The parking areas at Hall D and Hall E of The Venetian Macao are open to attendees on a “first-come, first-served” basis due to limited availability.
