[2024/06/20] The 5th Working Meeting of Steering Committee of IIICF Held to Leverage Macao’s Platform Role
On the first day of the 15th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF) on 19 June, the IIICF Steering Committee held its fifth working meeting. Vice Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China Guo Tingting and Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government Lei Wai Nong attended the meeting. They acknowledged IIICF’s achievements which were made with the support from the Steering Committee. They also made forward-looking suggestions for its future development. During the meeting, the organisers, the China International Contractors Association and the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), also introduced the preparations for the 15th IIICF.

During the meeting, Vice Minister Guo said that with the concerted efforts of all sides, IIICF has grown into one of the most prominent annual events in global infrastructure co-operation and the most influential international exhibitions in Macao. More than 3,500 guests from 70 countries have been invited to this year’s IIICF, and the exhibition space has been significantly expanded. She put forward three suggestions for the future development of the IIICF: first, to align more actively with the national development strategy and better serve the overall national development; second, to contribute to the growth of Macao’s MICE industry ecosystem and facilitate Macao’s appropriate economic diversification; third, to capitalise on Macao’s platform role and further enrich China’s economic and trade partnerships with Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs) and countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In his speech, Secretary Lei remarked that since its inception in Macao in 2012, IIICF has increasingly incorporated Macao elements. It has empowered local convention and exhibition, commerce and trade industries and enhanced their development efficacy. More importantly, it has helped to build an efficient exhibition and exchange platform and assisted all parties in seizing new opportunities brought about by the evolving global infrastructure needs, scientific and technological innovation, industrial transformation, and green and low-carbon transformation while making use of Macao’s institutional advantages under the “one country, two systems” framework and its role as an important node in the dual circulation of domestic and international markets, to jointly enhance Macao’s international presence. He also made three suggestions on IIICF’s development direction: to reinforce Macao’s role as a platform between China and PSCs to boost their infrastructure co-operation; to highlight Macao’s characteristics and elements and encourage Macao enterprises’ pariticipation in matching sessions; and to adopt the Macao-Hengqin coordinated development model and push forward regional connectivity and co-operation.
Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, the National Development and Reform Commission, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, the Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government, the Policy Research and Regional Development Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, the China International Contractors Association, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, the Permanent Secretariat of Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), and the Supporting Office to the Permanent Secretariat of Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) attended the meeting.
