[2024/06/19] [Promoting Appropriate Economic Diversification] 15th IIICF Enriches Elements of Macao and China-PSCs Partnership in Various Ways

The International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum (IIICF), which has been held in Macao for twelve consecutive years, has increasingly incorporated elements related to Macao and co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs). This year’s event features a richer variety of such elements in terms of guests, topics and business matching arrangements. For example, in the run-up to the 15th IIICF, suggestions from Macao’s business associations and engineering representatives have been collected, and for the first time intelligent engineering technologies and small electrical and mechanical equipment are exhibited to meet the needs of the Macao market; booths are set up to showcase industrial resources in Macao and Hengqin; and business matching sessions are organised for Macao and Hengqin enterprises. These measures were designed to bring Macao’s relevant sectors up to international standards, while leveraging Macao’s role as a platform between China and PSCs to deepen the participation of PSCs, Macao and Hengqin in the “Belt and Road” Initiative.

Exhibits catering to the needs of the Macao market and booths displaying China-PSCs partnership and Macao resources

This year’s event also boasts the largest exhibition in its history, covering 8,000 square metres and featuring 90 exhibitors. In addition to large engineering equipment, a variety of intelligent engineering technologies and small electrical and mechanical equipment suitable for the Macao market are also on display, including intelligent building control systems, new waterproof materials, and collaborative robots for medical applications, promoting networking and co-operation between the infrastructure industry in Macao and mainland China to jointly explore new opportunities for infrastructure development.

Among the 90 exhibitors, 26 are from Macao and Hengqin, more than double the number from last year. Booths such as the Macao-Hengqin Pavilion are also set up at the exhibition to showcase the opportunities for integrated development of Macao and Hengqin, the latest technologies and services of Macao’s engineering industry, the achievements of Macao as a platform for China-PSCs economic and trade co-operation, and the progress of Chinese enterprises in Macao.

Forum topics embedded with China-PSCs and Macao elements to underscore Macao’s advantages as a platform between China and PSCs

This year’s IIICF continues to serve as a vehicle for seminars, exchanges and the release of authoritative reports, and drives the progress of infrastructure co-operation between China and the “Belt and Road” countries through a series of keynote speeches, forums and conferences. These activities include “The 10th Forum of Infrastructure Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries & Business Meeting of Infrastructure Co-operation between Macao, Shandong and Portuguese-speaking Countries”, “Construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area – the Development Direction of Macao Construction Industry”, and the forum for Portuguese engineers “Macao’s Role in ‘One Platform’ – Engineering and Technology”, which highlight  the elements relevant to Macao and China-PSCs partnership.

The Report on the Belt and Road Infrastructure Development Index (2024) and The Report on Portuguese-speaking Countries’ Infrastructure Development Index and Macao’s Achievements in Belt and Road Initiative (2024), which anatomise the trends of the global infrastructure industry, will be released during IIICF to further capitalise on Macao’s role as a platform connecting China and PSCs.

Pre-arranged business matching sessions and guided tours to facilitate interaction and exchange between domestic and overseas infrastructure companies and enterprises in Macao and Hengqin

Business promotion is also a key function of IIICF. Prior to the event, the organisers surveyed the matching preferences of enterprises in Macao and Hengqin, and arranged for participating enterprises to interact with domestic and overseas infrastructure companies accordingly, focusing on areas such as construction projects, equipment, facilities and financing. In addition, representatives of Macao’s construction, business, industry and medical sectors are invited to visit the exhibition with in-depth explanations, so as to explore potential opportunities for co-operation and inject new impetus into the “1+4” appropriate economic diversification.

Jointly organised by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute and the China International Contractors Association, the 15th IIICF is open to the public with free admission for three consecutive days starting today (19 June). The public is welcome to visit the exhibition at Cotai Expo, The Venetian Macao. For more information on the 15th IIICF, please visit http://www.iiicf.org/.
