Angola is the second largest petroleum producer

in Africa’s southern Sahara area

ECONOMIC SITUATION:

The Republic of Angola is in south west Africa bordering Namibia to the south, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, Zambia to the east with the whole of the west coast along the Atlantic Ocean and Luanda as its capital. Angola is the second largest petroleum producer in Africa’s southern Sahara area with over 90% exported as well as being the fifth largest diamond producer in the world. The potential to develop the agricultural industry is enormous as it has an excellent climate and very fertile soil.

Business Opportunities:

Mining

With substantial deposits of mineral resources such as diamonds, petroleum, iron, copper, manganese, phosphate, salt, mica, lead, tin, gold,silver and platinum various metals; Angola has been described as one of the world’s best countries for natural resources. According to statistic data, Angola has 35 out of 45 mineral categories in international trade, especially petroleum, natural gas and diamonds. The government has developed a policy framework to encourage investment in the mining sector.

Agriculture and Fishing

Agriculture is the biggest industry with the cultivation of coffee being the most widely practiced, Angola is self-sufficient in most food crops such as sisal, corn, palm oil and sugar cane, with commercial crops such as cotton, tobacco, potatoes, rice, cocoa bean, bananas also high on the list. Cattle, goats and pigs are the main livestock farmed and fishing contributes a lot to the national economy providing about 50,000 jobs, which include 23,000 employed in iod fishing.

Tourism

The tourism industry is developing rapidly and is attracting investment from many different countries. With the number of travel agents increasing exponentially with the number of tourists also increasing; most of the agents are located in the capital Luanda and some provinces such as Benguela and Hula.)
