The recently opened Fung Shing Restaurant serves Shunde cuisine

IPIM’s “One-stop Service” opens doors for new businesses

The “One-stop Service” of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) provides comprehensive support for local investors and entrepreneurs looking to set up their own companies in Macao.

This issue of Macao Image introduces two very different companies – one devoted to serving healthy and quality food, the other one is an environmental sci-tech company that has brought intelligent car washing technology to the city.

The two companies were already familiar with the administrative procedures to set up a business in Macao and could have done everything on their own, but because of IPIM’s ability to communicate with different government departments effectively and efficiently, they chose to rely on the Investors’ “One-stop Service” once again. Both of the companies say they were very pleased with the outcome.

In September 2018, Lake Chong Fa Restaurant Co. Ltd. opened Fung Shing Restaurant with the aim of providing high quality Shunde cuisine to Macao residents and tourists. Prior to Fung Shing Restaurant, the company had already opened restaurants serving northeastern Chinese cuisine for a couple of years.

Iris U, Managing Director of Lake Chong Fa Restaurant Co., told Macao Image: “We have restaurants presenting northern Chinese cuisine for travellers from northern China. It’s time for us to bring the authentic tastes of southern China to Macao.”

“We have hired chefs and waiters from Shunde to present dishes with the original flavours of the region,” she added.

Not only is Fung Shing Restaurant dedicated to presenting authentic dishes, it is also committed to serving quality food to residents and travellers. “Our company is very demanding with regard to the preparation of our dishes,” Ms U said. “Customers are able to see our cooks at work through our glass show kitchen. We also implement strict regulations with regard to food additives. Food additives are forbidden and cannot be added into our dishes. We provide healthy, high quality and reasonably priced food for local residents and tourists.”

IPIM’s “One-Stop Service” is not new to Ms U. She learned about it three years ago when she started the Cheong Chon Food Processing Factory. She considers this service capable of providing many supports to entrepreneurs, as it helped her open the factory smoothly and successfully. Therefore, when her company decided to expand with a brand-new restaurant, Ms U decided, without question, to use this service once again.

Even though it was not the first time Ms U opened a business and she was familiar with the procedures required, she found that the “One-stop Service” was still very beneficial to have for the restaurant opening.

“Once we submitted all of the required documents to IPIM, we were soon given the licence for the restaurant to open. It is easier for IPIM to communicate with other government departments on our behalf, and whenever any documents are needed, IPIM is meticulously careful with the details. They only accept reliable, trustworthy and accurate information, which also gives us confidence in the application.”

Environmentally friendly car washing

With environmental issues increasingly at the forefront of the minds of the younger generation, new green businesses are sprouting in Macao. In January 2019, Macau Lian Da Environment Protection Technology Co. Ltd. unveiled a new way to clean cars that would respect the environment with more mindful products, providing more options to Macao’s drivers while contributing to environmental protection.

Grace Leong, Marketing Manager for Macau Lian Da Environment Protection Technology, says car washing normally consumes large volumes of water and electricity, and creates a lot of sewage. After starting the eco-friendly car washing business two years ago, the company recognised the benefits of the new technology and decided to open a factory to manufacture eco-friendly car wash products and take good control of the quality of their output.

“The main purpose of our products is to break down and separate dirt. First, we apply the caring cream on the car, and gently even the product out with our patented tool and sponge, allowing the cream to break down the dirt and remove it from the car,” said Ms Leong. “After cleaning, we spray our shine solution and wipe the car with micro-fibre cloth to give it some shine. Finally, we apply a protective coat so that the car will be resistant to pollution, water spots, corrosion, static electricity and ultraviolet rays and is easy to clean.”

Ms Leong said introducing the technology from overseas, buying the products and setting up a car wash company were not difficult. The real challenge was opening a factory. IPIM’s “One-Stop Service” made the process much more simplified and more convenient. “Registering this factory involved various government departments such as the Macao Economic Bureau; Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau; Fire Services Bureau; Labour Affairs Bureau and Health Bureau. Coordination among the departments was also needed to approve the renovation plans for the factory. With the help of IPIM, we went through the processes very smoothly.”

Not only has Lian Da Environment Protection Technology introduced innovative technologies and products for car washing, the company is also proactively advocating environmental protection.

“We operate our factory strictly according to environmental requirements and zero emission standards. Our products meet all of the eco-friendly standards and do not produce any sewage waste,” Ms Leong emphasised. “The more natural resources we use, the faster they run out. We hope to be able to contribute to improving the environment.”
