The European Union will contribute €12 million to finance a programme to improve the performance, growth and contribution of the coffee value chain in the diversification of the Angolan economy, said on Wednesday in Luanda, the ambassador of the European Union in Angola, Tomás Ulicny.
The funds, to be granted for five years, will strengthen the involvement and commitment of the Angolan government, specifically on the implementation of the programme to support production, diversification of exports and import substitution (Prodesi), in the development of one of the priority products, which is coffee.

A União Europeia vai contribuir com 12 milhões de euros para financiar um programa destinado a melhorar o desempenho, o crescimento e o contributo da cadeia de valor do café na diversificação da economia de Angola, disse quarta-feira, em Luanda, o embaixador da União Europeia em Angola, Tomás Ulicny.
O referido apoio, a ser concedido durante cinco anos, vem reforçar o empenho e compromisso do governo angolano, especificamente na execução do Programa de Apoio à Produção, Diversificação das Exportações e Substituição de Importações (Prodesi), no desenvolvimento de uma das fileiras prioritárias que é o café.
Pretende-se reforçar a capacidade de instituições públicas como o Instituto Nacional do Café ou a Agência de Investimento Privado e Promoção das Exportações, através da ligação e facilitação do diálogo destes com os agentes privados envolvidos na cadeia de valor.
“Como primeiro passo deste processo, está a ser realizado um estudo aprofundado da cadeia de valor do café, tendo em consideração a vertente produtiva, económica, social e ambiental”, disse o embaixador à agência noticiosa Angop.
O estudo é realizado no âmbito do projecto “Análise da cadeia de valor para o desenvolvimento”, sendo financiado pela Unidade Alimentar, Nutrição e Desenvolvimento Rural da direcção de cooperação da União Europeia e executado pela Agrinatura (grupo de universidades e centros de investigação europeias).
