Macao Holds Briefing on UFI “Global Framework for Reopening Exhibitions” to Celebrates 2020 “Global Exhibitions Day”

Organised by the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), supported by IPIM and Macao Government Tourism Office, a briefing session on UFI “Global Framework for Reopening Exhibitions” was held on 3 June to celebrate the 2020 “Global Exhibitions Day”. The organiser aimed to enable representatives of the convention and exhibition industry to understand the content of the “Global Framework for Reopening Exhibitions” and formulate relevant measures in advance accordingly.

Mr Lei Wai Nong, Secretary for Economy and Finance, addressed the event and recalled the cancellation and postponement of most conventions and exhibitions in Macao and around the world over the past few months. He said that thanks to the joint efforts of all sectors of society, Macao has seen some progress in epidemic prevention and control, and social and economic activities have gradually returned to normal. Macao’s convention and exhibition industry needs to refer to UFI’s framework to formulate strategies and plans, and prepare for the reopening of exhibitions and trade activities in a safe and controllable way.

At the meeting, Ms Chan Si Nga, Director-general of the Macao Fair & Trade Association explained the UFI “Global Framework for Reopening Exhibitions” for the participants. She introduced five categories of risk management measures that can be employed before, during and after the exhibition. The five categories include ensuring personnel and personal safety, maintaining physical distancing, increasing health and safety measures, implementing crowd control, and encouraging and enforcing measures.
