Macao enterprisers participate in the Symposium on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area

Macao is one of the core cities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. From 8 to 10 April, IPIM’s Acting President Irene Va Kuan Lau led a delegation of around 20 enterprisers to participate in the Symposium on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in Tokyo, which was collaboratively held by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government and the Macao Special Administrative Region Government (Macao SAR). The delegation aimed at publicising the advantages of Macao’s positions as a “World Centre of Tourism and Leisure” and a “Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”, helping Macao enterprises in grasping the opportunities arising from the release of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and joining the country’s momentum. The Symposium was joined by more than 1,000 attendees.

The Symposium commenced on 9 April. It contained an opening ceremony, panel sessions and enterprises interaction sessions. The ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Japan Cheng Yonghua; the Chief Executive of HKSAR Carrie Lam; the Governor of Guangdong Province Ma Xingrui; the Secretary for Administration and Justice of Macao SAR Chan Hoi Fan; the State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Yoshihiro Seki; the Chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Entrepreneurs Union and the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Hong Kong Jonathan Choi, and the Chairman of the Japan External Trade Organisation Nobuhiko Sasaki were invited to deliver speeches at the opening ceremony. Following the opening addresses was the panel discussion on the opportunities of the Greater Bay Area. Speakers included the Director of the Policy Research and Regional Development Bureau of the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region Mi Jian.

Two panel sessions in the afternoon have speakers focusing on innovation and technology and smart health trends. The President of the Administrative Committee of the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund Frederico Ma, and the R&D Director and General Manager of Synopsys Macao Ltd Ben U were invited to share their experience and insights at the first panel session on innovation.
