IPIM and Shanghai Diamond Exchange Enter into Co-operation Agreement

The 9th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum is successfully held in Macao

In order to foster Macao’s diversified economic development, with the support of the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR and the Macao SAR Government, IPIM signed the Strategic Co-operation Agreement with Shanghai Diamond Exchange on 7 June.

Witnessed by the Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Yan, the Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macao Leong Vai Tak, Inspector at the Comprehensive Department of the Ministry of Commerce Song Lihong and the Head of Office of Secretary for Economic and Finance Teng Nga Kan, the signing of agreement was carried out by the IPIM’s President Jackson Chang and the President of Shanghai Diamond Exchange Lin Qiang. Guests participating in the signing ceremony included around 100 leaders and representatives of the Ministry of Commerce, the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, Shanghai Diamond Exchange, Macao’s industrial and commercial sectors, gold industry and jewellery sector.

This collaboration aims at connecting itself to the Belt and Road Initiative by promoting the development of Macao’s jewellery industry, international co-operation and the talent cultivation in the jewellery industry. With the strategic objective of building a world-class centre for rough diamonds and jewellery trading centre, the co-operation also aims to foster Macao to become an internationally influential diamond and gem trading centre by making good use of the domestic and global network built by the Shanghai Diamond Exchange and the jewellery resources from Portuguese-speaking Countries (PSCs), together with Macao’s advantages of being a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure, the China-PSC Centre and its fast-growing convention and exhibition industry. The collaboration also intends to jointly nurture the development of Macao’s jewellery industry, actively introduce industry-related forums, business matching session and fashion show, and advance the development of jewellery industry in line with the moderately diversified development of Macao’s economy. In addition, the co-operation will also import international professional training resources in terms of jewellery appraisal, design and processing to Macao.
