[2020-02-28] Trade between China and Portuguese-speaking countries grows by 1.55% in 2019

The value of trade between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries grew 1.55% year-on-year in 2019 to US$149.639 billion, according to official Chinese figures released by Forum Macau.

Last year China sold goods to the eight Portuguese-speaking countries worth US$44.064 billion (+5.30% on year) and those same countries imported goods worth US$105.574 billion, generating a trade deficit of US$61.510 billion.

Brazil was responsible for 76.6% of the trade registered between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries with a total of US$114.680 billion (+3,49%), as China exported goods in the amount of US$35.476 billion (+5,18%) and imported products worth US$79.203 billion (+2.76%).

Angola, as usual, came in second place with two-way trade of US$25.365 billion (-8.61%), with China selling goods to Angola in the amount of US$2.057 billion (-7.95%) and purchasing goods from Angola to the value of US$23.308 billion (-8.67%).

China’s trade with Portugal in 2019 totalled US$6.643 billion (+10.43%), with Chinese companies exporting goods worth US$4.325 billion (+14.77%) and importing goods worth US$2.317 billion (+3.14%).

The value of China’s trade with Mozambique reached US$2.668 billion (+6.06%), with Chinese companies exporting goods valued at US$1.956 billion (+4.94%) and importing goods totalling US$711 million (+9.28%).

Trade between China and the other Portuguese-speaking countries – Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste – reached US$280.82 million in 2019.
