Construction of a plant with a capacity to process 400 million cubic feet of natural gas per day begins is due to begin at the end of the year, in the municipality of Soyo, in Angola’s Zaire province, by ENI Angola, the director of the project said in Soyo on Thursday.

The project, called “New Gas Consortium”, was presented to the members of the provincial government, and Kresimir Vujec said that the construction of the factory, which will occupy an area of 100 hectares in the village of Kivinca Nvemba, on the outskirts of the city, will take two years.

The director of the project for ENI, Kresimir Vujec, said that the natural gas processing plant of the Angola LNG consortium, which is already in operation in Soyo, will be the main recipient of the gas to be processed.

He said that a phase of public consultation will follow, along with the removal of landmines in the area, project data surveys and an environmental impact study.

At least 3,000 jobs will be created in the construction phase, which will be reduced to 100 when the plant goes into commercial operation.

Angola LNG is an integrated project for the exploration of natural gas, with a processing plant, a sea terminal and loading facilities, as well as the possibility of developing non-associated gas.

The shareholders of Angola LNG Limited are Angolan oil company Sonangol, with 22.8%, US group Chevron (36.4%) and BP, Italian group ENI and France’s Total, with 13.6% each.
