The Northern Development Corridor (CDN), the concessionaire company of the port of Nacala, in Nampula province, northern Mozambique, handled more than 2.2 million tonnes of general cargo in 2019, an annual increase of 16%, the company said.

“This is an increase of more than 300,000 tonnes compared with 2018, a year in which 1.9 million tonnes were handled,” said the statement issued by the CDN, which added the increase was the result of the company’s investments in human and technical resources, as well as the acquisition of equipment.

The company said that even with refurbishments underway in the port area, which limits some operational activities, it had achieved the target set for 2019 and outperformed production in 2018.

The CDN is a company founded and registered in Mozambique, whose objective is the management, recovery and full commercial exploration of facilities in the port of Nacala and the railway network in northern Mozambique, and is part of the Nacala Corridor Project, which encompasses the northern region of Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia.
