The creation of tens of thousands of jobs at the Cacuso Agro-Industrial Hub in Angola’s Malanje province could become a reality following total investments of US$863 million, a consultant from Indian group Mahindra said recently in the city.

Cited by the Angop news agency Mário de Matos, who was presenting the Agriculture, Livestock and Forests Value Chain Study, under public consultation a week ago, said the project, with funding from the African Development Bank, will be implemented over seven years.

The study also covers the Quibala hub in Kwanza Sul, a venture designed to involve the provinces of Benguela, Bié and Huambo in the production chain, requiring investments of US$736 million and leading to creation of in tens of thousands of other jobs.

The consultant at Mahindra, the company that conducted the study commissioned by the Ministry of Economy and Planning, said that the area to be cultivated is determined in the project by the number of processing units, which requires two years of studying the value chain and seven years to reach the global development of the facilities, although production surpluses are expected from the fifth year onwards.
