The World Bank will finance the construction of a 27-kilometre railway line between Matola Gare and Albazine railway stations in the metropolitan area of Maputo, southern Mozambique, the president of Metrobus said.

Amade Camal also told Rádio Moçambique that the multilateral financial institution will initially provide US$130 million, which will be spent on the construction of railway stations, line electrification, training and purchasing electric trains.

Metrobus began operations in February 2018 and consists of rail and road transport to respond to the mobility problem between Matola and Maputo municipalities.

The project has the capacity to transport around 30,000 people per day and has a fleet of 100 buses to guarantee the distribution and collection of passengers in various parts of the city of Matola, Maputo and surrounding areas.
