E-commerce company AliExpress, of the Chinese group Alibaba, opened its first physical point of sale on Friday in Curitiba, capital of the Brazilian state of Paraná, reported daily newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo.

AliExpress’s arrival in Brazil is the result of a partnership with Ebanx, the payment company, with a temporary commercial operation being opened at the point of sale.

“It is a 30-day pilot project that will make consumers feel safer to buy products from China over the Internet,” André Boaventura, an Ebanx partner, told the São Paulo newspaper.

Boaventura also said that placing a point of sale in this place will help change the perception of Brazilian consumers that Chinese products are not of great quality.

AliExpress’s point of sale will be a kind of display case with digital products, although some physical products are displayed, with the consumer having the opportunity to analyse the items on an interactive screen, and finalising the purchase through their mobile phone.

The capital of Paraná was the city of choice because it is home to Ebanx, the company that processes payments for AliExpress and 150 Chinese e-commerce brands, as well as Spotify and Airbnb.
