Chinese companies will import 60,000 tonnes of tobacco produced in Mozambique per year from 2020, making China the second-largest importer of this cash crop, the President of the Republic announced on Thursday in Angonia, Tete province.

Mozambican news agency AIM reported that the tobacco produced in Mozambique, particularly that of Tete province, was exclusively destined for the United States of America.

Filipe Nyusi also announced that Chinese companies would also import, from 2020, 15,000 tonnes of macadamia nuts, 30,000 tonnes of cashews, 150,000 tonnes of sesame and 200,000 tons of Boer beans.

During a walkabout at the administrative post in Dómuè, the President said that the increase in exports of local products resulted from his contacts with foreign partners to “make use of what Mozambican production and markets offer.”

Nyusi inaugurated the Mphulo-Tsangano-Ulónguè and Ulónguè-Dómuè-Furancungo stretches of road, which are 101.4 km and 101.3 km long respectively, a project that was funded by the World Bank and completed in July after it was launched in October 2017.
