[2019-07-19] Mozambique intends to continue to participate in the Belt and Road initiative

Mozambique will continue to actively participate in the Belt and Road initiative by attending major events such as the China International Imports Exhibition in Shanghai, a ministerial official said recently in Maputo.

António Inácio Júnior, director for Asia and Oceania of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, also said that Mozambique will support the preparatory work for the 6th Ministerial Conference of Forum Macau and called for China’s participation in the Maputo International Fair to be held in August.

The official, who was receiving a delegation from the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum Macau led by Deputy Secretary-General Ding Tian to meet with Mozambican officials, expressed his country’s intention to take full advantage of bilateral and multilateral mechanisms, in addition to creating new cooperation models.

Ding Tian informed António Inácio Júnior of the activities carried out by Forum Macau to strengthen cooperation with both Mozambique and other Portuguese-speaking countries, to promote bilateral exchange and strengthen the approach between Forum Macau and the Portuguese-speaking countries.

This exchange and approach involve several factors, such as investment policies, market opportunities, business environments, complementary advantages, among others, making the most of Macau as a platform to expand areas of business cooperation.

The Delegation of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macau also met with the Minister of Trade and Industry of Mozambique, Ragendra de Sousa, and with the Director General of the Mozambican Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Exports (Apiex), Lourenço Sambo.

Minister Ragendra de Sousa said that Forum Macau had been carrying out a number of activities with remarkable results, contributing in a committed way to economic and trade cooperation between China and Mozambique, and thanked the Permanent Secretariat for its efforts to promote the export of agricultural products from Mozambique to China.
